[quote=]"ukcanuckSeems reasonable to go with Cory until he loses a game, which might be a while the way the team is playing. The next three are totally winnable but the game in Montreal will be their 4th in a week and the first of a road trip so it might be here that Luongo gets back in, plus its his home town and that might figure into the coach's decision making. After that its crystal ball time

I like the idea of Luongo starting in Montreal for the same reasons, even is Schneids hasn't lost yet, think it would be a good time to see how the competition has affected Luongo's game .
Botchford & other media are definately trying to stir it up(i guess it's their job in this hockey crazy city),I don't blame AV & lou getting pissed off with the relentless attempts at making this something its not.(a controversy)

Re: Official Luongo Hate / Love Thread
I only discussed that incident with one Coach, a guy recently out of the AHL and too young young to share my "Old Goalie" perspective cuz he didn't agree with me at all. He thought it was a total cheap shot. Seriously, it may really be a perspective that comes from a different, distant era. In fact, it's made me wonder if the rule really was different when I played. Any idea?KeyserSoze wrote:PS - did all those goalie coaches agree with your opinion that because Miller was out playing the puck he was fair game to be hit, eventhough the rule book as it is currently written states otherwise?

We missed National Kick a Ginger Day.

I think it would be reasonable to start Cory for the next game or two. Wherever Lou's head is atm, he needs to shake the cobwebs out and get hungry again. Running with the Ginger earlier in the season really seemed to spark Lou.Mondi wrote:Bump. Bump. Bump.
Is it time for Cory?
Guess we will see. AV will let us know later
Re: Official Luongo Hate / Love Thread
If Lu were an oreo November to February would be his icing.

Ummm what goaltender isn't a headcase??Mondi wrote: The guy's a good player and all. But he's a head case.
I noticed you had to wait a helluva long while before you dared bump this thread.
Ummm sure, give Schneids a few starts until Roberto regains his focus.
But stop trying to bury LOU prematurely in yer ghoulish goddamned goaltender graveyard!

I wonder what Luongo can get us?
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

To gain perspective on Luongo...
He currently holds the career wins record for two NHL teams... Florida (108) and Vancouver (220). Is there any other goalie that has done that?
Patrick Roy is close with 262 for Colorado (1st), and 289 for Montreal (2nd to Plante who had 314).

It's a great day for hockey!
Re: Official Luongo Hate / Love Thread
Luo's just getting out his bad games all at once.
Because come the playoffs, he's going to be on like Donkey Kong, IE UNSTOPPABLE AND HURLING FLAMING BARRELS AT THE ENEMY.
When we win the SC, it'll be Luo winning the Conn Smythe, mark my words!!

Most shots faced by a goaltender, in a season: 2,488 (2005–06)
Most shots faced by a goaltender, in a playoff game: 76 (11 April 2007)
Most saves by a goaltender, in a season: 2,303 (2003–04)
Most overtime wins: 49
That last one stands out the most for me
Re: Official Luongo Hate / Love Thread
And judging from last year's playoff refereeing, hurling flaming barrels at opponents is probably not even going to punished.mathonwy wrote:Because come the playoffs, he's going to be on like Donkey Kong, IE UNSTOPPABLE AND HURLING FLAMING BARRELS AT THE ENEMY.

Re: Official Luongo Hate / Love Thread
After Lu let that first one in tonight against the Ducks, I was screaming at the tv; glad AV switched to Cory; though at the time I thought it was too late... guess that's why I'm not coaching
But after the game I came across this little nugget from DanTheStatMan1 over at Nucks Misconduct about Playoff Goaltending -- it compares Lu against his peers (i.e. Brodeur, Fleury, Lundquist, Thomas, Miller, Ward etc.) in terms of playoff performances and, surprisingly (cuz I would rather keep Cory at this point...) he comes off smelling pretty good.

In fact, that article has changed my opinion of Lu, even though his blow-ups are supremely cringe-worthy (heh, some would claim, legendary, but I digress), all things considered, he is one *damn* fine keeper... in more than one sense of the word....as far as value to his team, Luongo is most valuable! This is true even with his high blow-up%. This is a stat he must improve. Or, knowing this tendency coach A.V. ought to pull Luongo quicker, in games that he is obviously having `one of those nights` (i.e. after two quick bad goals). He has been very unlucky to have had very low goal support in his playoff career, and therefore has received unfair criticism. The objective analysis shows that Luongo has been an elite performer in the playoffs when measured against his peers and not some other mythical scale! He has played well enough for the team to win the cup.
