GDT - Canucks vs Stars 7PM PST TSN

Post by donlever »

I can't get used to the no GDT until the last minute at this here site so I have been outwaited and outwitted.

Official line up not yet announced but rumour has Schneider in net again.

Will Bieksa play or is another "maintenance" day necessary?

NHL.COM PREVIEW

EXCERPT: The Stars have won two of their three meetings with the Canucks this season, but Vancouver took the most recent game, a 2-1 victory on March 22 at American Airlines Center.

Vancouver already has the Northwest Division title sewn up but is playing for the top spot in the Western Conference and first in the overall standings. The Canucks won't have an easy time against the Stars, who are playing well and embroiled in one of the wildest postseason runs in recent memory.

INJURIES: Radek Dvorak (ankle) and Eric Nystrom (lacerated leg) are both questionable for Dallas, which is also missing Mark Fistric, who has been out since March 21 with a strained abdominal muscle but has resumed skating. … Vancouver recently lost defenseman Aaron Rome for a week or two with a sprained knee, but the larger concern is the considerable void left by Daniel Sedin, who is out indefinitely with a concussion.

HOT: Not many players are hotter than Dallas' Michael Ryder, who has five goals and three assists in his last five games, including two goals and an assist on Wednesday. ... The Canucks may not be scoring much, what scoring they are getting all seems to be coming from Chris Higgins. He has three goals, including two game-winners, in the last three games. Add Canuck goaltending to the mix.

I think it's Luongo tonight and Ginger tomorrow.

Everyone expecting a 2-1 game means 6-5.

Yep, very well could be, I don't even know where I heard it but some bull honk was saying the success of Cody against Dallas and Luo against the Flames dictated the choice.

Could even have been Royaldude though so there ya go....

Unfortunately, Bieska will most likely sit out for another game or two.

Speaking Fiddler, he was trying to harass Henrik after the whistle but faded away when Kassian arrived at the scene. This is an example why having a big guy like Kassian around is important, especially in the playoffs.

From Canucks Facebook:
All Canucks were on the ice for morning skate, except Bieksa, Rome and Daniel Sedin. Luongo gets the start in net. Kevin Bieksa remains "day-to-day", while Aaron Volpatti skated today.

Based on morning skate, it looks as though Kevin Bieksa will miss his second consecutive game Friday.

The Canucks defenceman did not take part in Vancouver’s morning practice; he was one of three absentees, including Daniel Sedin and Aaron Rome.

Canucks associate coach Rick Bowness provided little insight as to what Bieksa is overcoming at the moment, only saying he’s “day-to-day.”

“We all know Kevin is one of the most fierce competitors in the league, he battles hard every shift, so to give him a few maintenance days is the proper thing to do,” said Bowness.

Quizzed as to exactly what area of the body Bieksa needs time off to heal, upper or lower body, Bowness answered as only he can.

“How about we go with the whole body and mind, we’ll give him a mental break too.”

Canucks forward Aaron Volpatti, who was sidelined indefinitely after undergoing shoulder surgery on December 4th, is perhaps closer to a return than anyone expected.

Volpatti was put through the paces, alongside Andrew Ebbett, prior to Vancouver’s morning skate Friday, and although he hasn’t been cleared to play, it remains a possibility.

”He’s improved and his conditioning has improved and we want to make sure that if he’s ever given the green light to play, that we have him ready to go,” said Bowness.

No update on Daniel Sedin, he’s “the same as Kevin, day-to-day,” according to Bowness. “We’ll see what happens today, we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
