Wow. After what we have learned with the Crosby situation and concussions as a whole, what team of idiots would NOT seek immediate attention to a hard blow to the head of one of its star players? Also, the rules dont say that suspensions should be based on signs of a concussion.

I know that as far a journalism goes, sports journalist tend to be on the lower end of the quality scale, but I'd like to think they aren't actually that stupid.

Bobby Mac had an interesting comment last year when there was a ton of outside pressure on the NHL in regards to the concussion problem and discipline. He said something to the effect of, the vets running the league have a certain outlook on the game, and feel like they understand the game and how the NHL should run better than anyone else, and any sort of outside pressure or criticism is largely ignored. The attitude is, this is how we do business, and if you don't like it, find something else to do with your time.

I watched Serpico last weekend. those comments could just as easily describe the movie.

If they should meet in the playoffs and the Hawks lost again ... we could trace this back to the hit on Daniel no? The Hawks have to play with that voodoo.

Another point I wanted to make was that this wasn't a hit on an average player either. Daniel Sedin is among the very best in the NHL and this should be treated like a hit on such. Also take Daniel's clean track record and play year after year. How much he represents the class of class amongst the players. How much he helps the community. I think the NHL should make an example of Keith for going after Sedin like that.

In the end this might be the kind of event that helps the team and maybe even tweaks the league.

This sort of attack is not okay. Imagine if it were outside of a sporting event? Keith would be in very big trouble. Why should he be able to get away with it in a 'game'? It's just not accepted in regular-joe society.

Amazing when you compare a hit like that to some of the other *minors* in the game ... as if they are all equally deserving. Just pathetic if you ask me.

Of course they are piling on. After all, the organization they cheer for and/or are a part of doesn't believe concussions exist and if they do they aren't serious injuries. Numerous pundits have remarked this year that the Flyers and the Hawks are still stuck back in the 70's and 80's when it comes to concussions. Well more exact is that the Hawks are. The Flyers may have learned something with the Pronger debacle. They let him play for 3 weeks with a concussion and now the guy can barely even function based on comments his wife has made. The talk seems to be that the Hawks haven't learned the same thing despite their captain and best player missing the past 15 games. Hell they still won't even call it a concussion after all this time. They still don't think it was a big deal he was driving and got into an accident. No matter how minor or even if the concussion was caused/worsened or even was the cause of the accident isn't relevant. They need to stop burying their heads in the sand.

I remarked on it on another board to be sure. The Hawks turned tail and ran the last half of the game and especially when Kassian was around. They also heard all sorts of steps in the third period when the canucks were forechecking. Is it surprising? Of course not. As Kassian makes LaPierre and other canucks grow 6 inches so did Fugly to the Hawks.

The biggest blame IMO is right at the top, the NHL front office. In some ways I have some sympathy for the on ice officials as they have to just as confused as the players when it comes to consistency. ....
