Mishandling the Sedins

Postby Groovypippin on Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:43 am

I am not in a blind panic about the fact Hank and Dank are slumping. Obviously, I'd like to see that slump come to and end, but sooner or later it will. What I am concerned about is, with the refs collectively swallowing their whistles, is the amount of abuse that Hank and Dank have been receiving as of late.

And what really, really concerns me is the lack of response from any of their teammates. All of us here would love it if Hank and Dank had a little more Iginla in them and could defend themselves effectively. The fact is they are pure skill guys who can't. When they try it kills their game. So why are their teammates so reluctant to come to their defense?

I'm not talking about freaking out everytime one of them gets bumped. I'm talking about watching PK Subban take liberties on home ice with no response. And countless other examples. At this point in the season, with both Sedins absolutely critical to our playoff success, Coach V should re-insert Bitz, sit the useless Raymond, put Kassian with the Twins and tell him to pound the living shit out of any opposing players taking liberties. When he's in the box skate Bitz with the Twins with the same instructions. Instigator penalty? Who cares. They are rarely assessed. Ever see a Bruin get one?

Opposing players will quickly realize that fucking with our star players will earn them a fist in the face and five minutes in the box. The refs won't call the rulebook at this point so why abide by it?

I really hope AV puts Kickassian with Les Bros.Sedins for a period just to see the space he creates...Bert use to do it for Markus to great effect...are you reading this Alain? 1 period...do it! 8-)

...clearly you are wrong Groovy.

A professional ex-NHL'er clearly said that Henrik has to start throwing the weight (and presumably fists) around thus looking after himself.

I mean Craig Simpson must know what he is talking about right?

Isn't that what his ol' pal Gretz used to do?

...fewer than 500 games, FIVE Cup rings.

Astounding.

Yeah, for some reason it took Henri Richard 1,256 games to get his 11... :wow:

...I have to admit I like the idea of a Clark Gillies type on the Sedin line - I just don't know if the Canucks have anyone besides Burrows that can complement their game.

...AND provide the physical/intimidation element that might help.

Kassian? Bitz? Maybe.

Let me be clear. I suggest this as the approach for the last 13 games of the season, not necessarily for the playoffs, but hey you never know.

Chumbawamba's hit Tubthumping is really about the Sedins:

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to keep me down

We'll be singing
When we're winning
We'll be singing

One of the singers even looks like a Sedin...! :o

Funny Leves. Also I remember Simpson himself as one of the biggest pussies ever.

Always hated him as a player.

Likewise as a commentator.

I used to be a huge fan of the Oilers during the mid/late 80's. They were my 2nd favorite team. What can I say? I was a young kid and I cheered winners, lol.

One thing I notice now upon looking back, is that you never hear the true "difference makers" of that team chirping about how many cups they won. Gretzky, messier, kurri, tikanen, Coffey, fuhr, etc.

You also never hear any of these guys looking down on anyone in a condescending manner.

This is quite a contrast from how minimal impact guys like Craig Mactavish, Kevin Lowe, and Craig Simpson act at times.
RIP Creeper. You will be missed.

I'm just thinkng here, maybe give Booth a couple games with the Sedins. I know the Amex line has been one of our better ones of late, but Booth likes to drive to the net and he seems to have some nice finish close range. I think AV should give it a try.
