Trade 1 of the Sedins?

Postby Hockeylover44 on Wed Feb 08, 2012 2:11 am

I might sound crazy but as of right now, I don't think the Canucks can win the cup. Anyone think we should trade one of the Sedins and build for our future with some good prospects and another top 6 forward?

If you trade the twins, you'd have to package them off.

I wouldn't trade the twins at all.

The ONLY way I would consider trading the twins, was if the Canucks didn't win the cup this year......AND we could get both Shea Weber and Ryan Suter from Nashville.

Twins for Weber/Suter.

Canucks would then be set at center, goaltending, and on 'D' for years to come. Kesler-Hodgson-Weber-Suter-either Schneider or Luongo.

But again - it will never happen. I would also like to point out that despite the Canucks' recent "slide", we are still 7-2-1. Championship calibre teams find ways to win even when they aren't playing particularly well. Canucks may not be playing their best hockey right now, but they have earned the right to have the benefit of the doubt.....as long as they keep on winning.
RIP Creeper. You will be missed.

I think people around Vancouver have got a little spoiled. Henrik and Daniel Sedin are two of the best hockey players in the world. They are as consistent as anyone, and you'd have to say we have two of the top-10 players in the game. Factor in their contracts and you'd be a certifiable nut-job to consider moving them. The Sedins at $6M (instead of $7.5) allow you to have David Booth at $4. Just like Burrows at $2M (instead of $4M) allows you to have Higgins at $1.9M. Suter and Weber are going to cash in at around $14-$15M for the pair. That's too much to keep a competitive BALANCED team around them. Nashville can do it, but imo they will be the same team they are now, and will be hard-pressed to move into the true "consistent contender" class that the Canucks are currently in.

Crosby, maybe Ovechkin when he wants to be, Stamkos, Malkin if he's healthy, Giroux is getting there. The Sedins are in the discussion with all these players. These are all players you just don't trade. Superstars.

Booth-Kesler-Burrows
Raymond-Hodgson-Higgins
Hansen-Lapierre-Bitz
Weise-Malhotra-Ebbett

I'm sorry but that forward group doesn't do it for me at all.

Ummmmmmmmmm Yeah..... that's maybe not the best way to ingratiate yourself to a first place teams fan site.
Maybe we could trade them for Iginla? Or is it Kessel? Depends where you're trolling from I suppose...

I think if you packaged up Daniel Sedin and Kesler you could at least get Weber and Fisher.

or perhaps a multiple trade deal?

Daniel, Coho and Luongo to Anahiem for Perry and Hiller. Then we could ship Schieder and Kesler off for suter and fisher.

that would be most excellent

I just wanted to think out of the box a little bit here, I love the Canucks and have been a fan since the last playoff run.

You do sound silly, but I did like the fact that AV split them up last night.

I would love to see the Twins lean to be effective while apart at even strength.

The Canucks are very weak against teams who have high end defensive pairing who can shut the twins down (Preds, Bruins, Hawks), and very strong against teams who cant contain them (Sharks / Wings + the entire NW) if you can split the twins and balance out 2 lines, we become a much more difficult team to match up against.

Hank and Dank should always play together on the power play though.

I also think that AV should be using Booth and Hank together if he is splitting up the twins. Kind of odd to put the former 30 goal scorer with Hodgson and the former 4 goal scorer with the best play maker in the game.

I don't think the Twins need to learn to play without each other. They've never been given the opportunity, I'm sure if it was given they'd succeed.

Case in point, Henrik's tear in 2009/2010 when Daniel was injured.

I'd have no problem with lines something like...

Burrows Sedin Booth
Sedin Hodgson Kesler
Higgins Lapierre Hansen
Bitz Malhotra Wiese

I'm not saying its necessary or even more desirable, but it would work.
