I think the kids in Oil Town are starting realize just how good they are. This could be a scarey good team much sooner than you think. They are giving good teams a run for their money. Did Sam Gagner just realize that "hey, fuck Nuge, Hall and Eberle, I can play to".

I think the kids in Oil Town always new this, it just so happens the team has f-all for defense and an aging inconsistent goaltender.

Who is talking about now? In a couple seasons maybe less, this is going to be a good team with loads of young confidence. It won't take much to fix the leaks on that team in which you really don't have to re-point out the obvious to me, Blades on where they are. UFA's won't mind signing with the Oil now when seeing what they have percolating below the surface there, there will be a pipeline of quality name UFA's heading there. Edmonton has struck Oil, it's a geyser! Somebody cap that well! They are up and comers this team.

Easy there Dude.

I don't think any UFA's were in a rush to sign with Atlanta when Kovalchuk and Heatley were blossoming into studs in the league. I didn't see anyone (important) rushing to the Islanders over the past couple seasons.

UFA's will sign with the teams that have the best organization, geographic location, or deepest pockets. The Canucks are a destination of choice because of the management system, the talent level, and the city. Teams like the Rangers, Flyers, Leafs and Habs will be targets because of their history. Teams like LA and San Jose because of the the location.

Edmonton has very little to offer UFA's. They play in a shitty old barn (for the next couple years at least), they are a very small market team, the city itself leaves a lot to be desired in both size, scenery and weather... it's not a place many folks are going to WANT to go to.

IMO Edmonton will get a look from UFA's, but they won't be signing sweetheart deals unless there is some Alberta-boy in them. They'll have to spend spend spend to get anyone to agree to come there, and chances are they won't have the cap space when Eberle, Hall and RNH are all getting 6.5-7M per season.

Were the Oilers also realizing how good they were while getting schooled by the Flames a few games back. THey are on a hot streak. They will cool down and end up 14th.

Iowa, eh? Spent a year there as exchange student when I was 19. Stratford, IA.
When I applied I had put down Hawaii as the state I'd prefer.
Hawaii/Iowa... easy to confuse, I guess.

It's a February tradition for that team, too bad they don't seem to realize "how good they are" before their season is over.

Really what seems to be apparent with the Oilers is that they are not going to be a huge UFA destination. So for them to fix the blueline and goaltending they will need to move some of that up front talent to balance the roster. So far there has been little indication the Oilers brain trust is willing (or able?) to make such deals.

Did anyone catch the Bruins/Sabers game? Killer!

Buffalo gave Boston a taste of their own medicine while completely tuning the Bruin's out. The result? The Bruin's hated it. They were off their game, quick to retaliate, made numerous trips to the box, gave up 6 goals and were unable to beat Miller.

So Vancouver had it half right last year it seems when they ignored them and attempted to take the high road. Bang on with the ingore button, not so much with the high road. Buffalo ramped it up and got under the Bruin's collective skin, Kaleta in particular. Boston is a group of hot heads who can be quickly prodded into losing their composure.

My favorite part of the night was when Kaleta took a bit of a run at Chara. Should have been a penalty, but he got away with it. What does Chara do? Levels Kaleta away from the puck right in front of the benches. Off he goes for a deuce. I hope the league takes a look at that and then takes another look at the "hit" on Pacioretty. They should see, in both cases, a player that gets under Chara's skin, and that player then pays a price when the puck is close enough that Chara thinks he can get away with it, but really not in play.

I also really hope that Marchand finally gets his wish and gets to somebody when he's sitting on the bench yapping in their ear. Hopefully he pisses off some AHL call up 4th line plug who picks drags him out of the bench and beats the shit out of him or just butt-ends him in the teeth. The NHL would be a better place if some drug addict thug in Beantown offed him one night on the way home from the bar.....

Well that's a really complicated question Horn..... :look:

:P

Actually the Bruins were probably my favorite American based team up until Chara became their captain. Still didn't hate them until last year when Chara took out Pacioretty. Then during the Eastern Final with Tampa I got to the point where I just couldn't stand them.

As for Marchand, I still liked him as a hockey player right up until he took Salo out just above the knees and then ranted about trying to protect himself.

No joke. I go there about once a year for her family and the whole State is farmed. I have not seen any country there that could be called wild. None. There is one place outside the John Deere factory in Waterloo where they have about 5 or 10 acres fenced off and the sign says it is 'original prarie'. I got to take their word for it but having grown up in BC
and worked all over the province it is shocking to see that level of settlement. Best thing about the place, besides my wife, is blond haired women and good manners as well as pork tenderloin sandwiches done crisp.
