Half way into the second period and Finland is ahead 1-0 against the USA! :o

Wow! Finns beat Yanks 4-1!

Who would have thought that after their poor effort against Canada?
Granted, this time they had the real starting goalie in the crease, he missed the previous game due to some minor injury or something, but still...!

Sweden is ahead 2-1 against the Swiss after two periods. Should be leading by more, shots are 36-14, but the Swiss goalie is quite good. We should win this though. 8-)

You boys really had to hang on vs the Swiss, eh? ;) The Swiss tender got robbed of the MVP, that's total horse-shit. 50 saves and you don't get the MVP? YA... okay.

Enjoyed Canada destroying the Czech's last night. They're looking pretty good and I'm surprised they gave up as many shots as they did, the play was certainly more one-sided.

Hopefully everyone can stay healthy tonight, there's a big game on Saturday... the US will be hungry after letting one slip away vs. the Fins.

'Hands of Stone' is taking on a new meaning in this tourney. Also I'm somewhat disappointed in Jensen. He just seems to be floating out there so far. Too bad, since I was really looking forward to seeing him play.

So if the USA game means nothing on Saturday, does Vistenin start to save Wedgewood, or put Wedgewood in to get him rolling?

Tonights game against Denmark was silly. Jensen looked bad, like LOST (after year one )bad.

Well, the US vs Canada game will certainly mean something.

After the USA has had their collective ass handed to them by first the Finns and now the Czechs, they will be playing relegation games unless they beat Canada!

Sweden ahead 2-1 against Slovakia after the first period.

Friberg is beginning to look like a real steal in the fifth round.

Actually, truth be told, a regulation time tie may suffice for them to reach the quarterfinal.

Assuming of course that Denmark beats Finland in regulation...

Jensen looked as though he couldn't wait for the tourney to be over.

Denmark was severely outmatched by every team in the round robin, 6 GF : 38 GA!

They really needed to change the qualification process for the WJC. It really makes no sense to have to qualify a year in advance when you lose a bunch of players due to their age that helped the team qualify for this years tourney.

Oops! 10-1 for Finland against Denmark.

Forget everything I said. The North American derby is meaningless.
The US will now have to fight to keep their slot in next year's WJC.

Comes as a bit of a surprise given that the US has won the J18 tournament two years in a row, and that the players who won those titles are the ones that made up this year's team at the WJC. Peaked too early? Became too cocky?
Either way, I did not see this coming. :?

Huge game for Sweden tonight against Russia, but it starts at 4 am, and there's no way I'll be watching that.

Brilliant comeback by the Swedish juniors! They were behind 3-0 after the first period, but didn't break under the pressure. Instead they hung in and fought their way back. They outshot the Russians 55-26 and with just 40 seconds on the clock, Max Friberg scored the equaliser with his seventh goal of this tournament. Then Nordström scored the game winner in over time.

Brilliant! Way to build morale! 8-)

Just too bad that they played this game at such a ridiculous hour when every one in Russia and Sweden was asleep. :(

4 am start that's almost dawn, I guess one needs to be a devoted fan to make that start time.

OK, then... Canada and Sweden won their respective groups and get a bye.
They are both directly qualified for the semi finals, where Canada will face the winner of the Russia vs Czechs QF and Sweden the winner of the Finland vs Slovakia QF.

The Russians are good, and Finland always gives 120% when playing Sweden, but I still predict a Sweden vs Canada final.

So, quarter finals today. I predict that the Russians and Finns will prevail.

The Czechs and Slovaks should start discussing reunification. ;)
