I actually have some sympathy for Carter.
Yes, he knew the risk of signing a 10 year deal when the NTC wouldn't kick in for a couple of years, but he was assured by the Flyers that they weren't going to move him. Not only did they trade him without speaking to him, they sent him to one of the worst destinations in the NHL, where he may be forced to play out his long-term deal. It's safe to say that Carter never would have signed a 10 year deal if he knew there was a chance he'd be traded in the very early years to a bottom feeder.
Do I think he should pout, bitch or request a mid-season trade? No. I think he should shut up, if he even asked for a trade, and not only play out this year, but give the team a chance next season as well. But, if it's a situation he can't stand after that period and he's truly unhappy, then I have no issue with him requesting a trade.
