When will the Oilers come back down to earth? No idea but it will happen just as it did with the Avs a couple of seasons ago. They won last night and once again got outshot badly and in fact only had 14 shots on goal. Once the goaltending comes back down to earth (like Anderson did for the Avs) and once Hopkins, Smyth and Horcoff shooting percentages drop back down to a normal level they will begin to fall. NOw the Avs managed to squeak into the playoffs but were quickly bounced. I still don't think the Oilers make the playoffs.

The 1-3-1 is boring no doubt, but honestly at some point every team uses it. While the lightening maybe deserved some mocking in the end they won the game and all Philly achieved was burning time off the clock. Time they could have used to get more than 15 shots on goal. Time they could have used to generate a scoring chance or two and maybe get some goals. It looked ridiculous and many people will praise Philly but ultimately Tampa got 2 points and Philly messed up.

And honestly, what Philly was doing was no different than a guy freezing the puck when there is no pressure on him...which is of course a delay of game penalty.

Well it's not quite, because by freezing the puck when there is no pressure you are no allowing the other team a chance to get the puck.

The puck was in play the whole time, all Tampa had to do was try and get it, they refused to. The defenseman didn't drop and sit on the puck covering it thereby making it impossible for the game to carry on.

Which is why they didn't call a penalty but forced a faceoff deep in Philly's zone.

It was a horrible display to watch but it sure drew attention to the fact that teams are getting back to clogging up the neutral zone.

IMO good for Laviolette, the trap is what made hockey almost unbearable to watch on the late 90's. I do not want hockey to get back to that and if they need to tinker with the rules to avoid that then do it now before it becomes a major issue!

Fuck the trap and everything that goes along with it!
