nope and neither is the simplified banking systems the rest of the world enjoys like proper debit visa and the ability to easily send money to someones account. We still use cheques here!
No wonder that old dinosaur is still rattling around...we have trouble graduating out of the dark ages!!!!

I actually used cheques when I was an exchange student in Iowa in 1982.

The Finns and Japanese are actually already moving away from credit and debit cards and now pay with their cell phones.
You can pay some stuff here by cell phone, like parking and bus/train fare, but we're a bit behind in this area.

Well you can pay bills and such yes but if you wanted to pay your rent for example to a person, you couldn't send it from your account to theirs like we do in the rest of the world. There's some overly complicated system where you send them an email and they accept and enter there details or something like this.
We have accounts with Swedbank and ANZ in Australia and those countries both have modern banking systems but here is a joke. In Canada, having a simple visa attached to your banking account is not possible. Only credit account visas.

Here's a perfect example, our daughters school sent us a bill for the hot lunch program and my wife called to ask account details for payment(she's Swedish and has never even seen a cheque, let alone wrote one). They told her to pay with a cheque or money order only. A money order is a cashiers cheque or document from the bank/post office which they in turn would take to their bank and deposit funds without risk of insufficient funds.
Every other country in the world would have an account number available in which you just go online and send funds to. Simple, uncomplicated yet seemingly beyond the grasp of average people here.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so damn inconvenient!

As far as old Don Cherry goes, he's an offensive idiot more in tune with a circus than professional hockey. I mean what's with the suits made out of 70's sofa fabric anyhow? This is pretty much how Don continues to exist. He cherry picks little clips of video and presents them as some sort of proof of something. Good on him for continuing to get paid for doing practically nothing. Thousands of government employees strive for this every day.
