Just discovered a Flames fact this afternoon - since Backlund has been hurt and out for all games so far this year - Calgary has not iced a single player this season that they have drafted.

Not true - I haven't gone through the entire roster, but David Moss for example, is a Calgary Draft pick. They don't have many of their own draft picks in their lineup, but there are a few.

Well, in all fairness to Sutter, he did revamp the Calgary Flames farm system and scouting. The problem is, he traded away too many high draft picks. Calgary has drafted well in the last few years. It'll take a couple of years for that to show up in their lineup.

Wow - that has to be the lowest total in the league, right?

That's quite surprising... I wouldn't have guessed ANY team in the league would have only ONE drafted player in their lineup.

For comparison, Vancouver has 8 (Henrik, Daniel, Kesler, Edler, Hansen, Bieksa, Hodgson, and Schneider)

Despite a few busts here and there like most teams have, we're certainly not the worst in the NHL of all time as some cynics have often alluded to.

Vancouver's drafting has been pretty good over the last decade. It just goes to show how long it's going to take Calgary to get to that level. One other thing - Calgary has never had a first overall pick - ever. Even when they came into the league as the Atlanta Flames, they ended up drafting 2nd.

Well, technically, in the wheeling and dealing that lead up to getting the Sedins at #2 and #3 overall, Burke did trade to get a #1 pick and then dealt that pick. So, technically, Vancouver at least had possession of a #1 pick overall - even if they didn't use it. Getting a #2 and #3 overall in the same round, especially when they are the Sedins, is probably better than a #1 pick overall.
