1040 resorted to Kevin Weekes as the African Canadian spokesperson for the banana incident. I wonder if they'll call Messier for this recent thingy?

If that was an apple or an orange it wouldn't have caused a ripple. If someone throws a potato at Ryan Callahan this year I'm filing a complain on his behalf with the Human Rights Commission.

Our culture is becoming so hyper sensitive and reactionary.
You mean you think someone just brought a banana to a hockey game because he felt Simmons was lacking potassium in his diet? I've only heard of 2 banana throwings in the NHL, Weekes and Simmons. I can't see any similarities between the 2 players except both are from the GTO. Do people there like bananas?

While it certainly isn't the end of the world that one dip**** does something stupid, I think it just adds to the pile. I do remember the time I was called white because of my dancing. That hurt.

I would rather live under Sharia law than in a place where I can't throw bananas with impunity.

Burkie is only upset because his kid died after coming out and admitting to choosing to be a homosexual. Not that his coming out caused his death. How did his kid die?

Mondi wrote:Yeah, it is certainly not without suspicious but I mean, the shootout had to occur for the "banana incident" to occur so for arguments sake...the following had to take place:

Idiot notices a preseason hockey game is coming to London, Ontario
Idiot is sufficiently interest in NHL hockey to attend the game
Idiot is also a racist bigot

Then either:
Idiot notes the Flyers and Wayne Simmonds are one of the team in the game
Idiot hatches a plan to send Wayne Simmonds some sort of message and therefore buys a ticket as step one of his plan

Or:
Idiot buys ticket and after the fact notices Wayne Simmonds is a member of the Flyers
Idiot hatches a plan to send Wanye Simmonds some sort of message

Idiot decides that a banana would send the appropriate message
Idiot purchases said banana
Idiot conceals banana and attends game
Banana is not detected by staff as idiot enters game
Idiot waits for the correct moment to hurl the banana unsure when it may come
Idiot smart enough not to hurl banana at any time during regulation when Simmonds is on the ice
Game goes to overtime, idiot is overjoyed
Game goes to a shootout, idiot is bursting
Coach selects Simmonds as a shooter
Idiot cannot believe his good luck
Idiot hurls banana from afar
Banana lands somewhere near Simmonds on the ice
Idiot believe message has been sent
Idiot evades detection by arena staff and/or other fans

While it is plausible that this series of events unfolded, I'm not convinced this wasn't just an idiot of a different kind--you know those guys who throw stuff on the ice at hockey games.

(Edit: after watching the video, it is pretty blatant--I'm a little more convinced my scenario occurred)
I'm guessing a banana is not considered a dangerous object during the bag search at the arena in London, ON.

If only these teenagers would stop choosing to imbibe in a lifestyle which guarantees them the scorn and harassment of their peers. All this nonsense could be avoided. Those selfish, selfish lads.

Tell me, is being intellectually challenged also a choice? Because if it is, I feel much better about the smoke bombs I threw into the LAC class in grade seven.

So you're saying an idiot just happened to have grabbed a banana rather than an apple or an orange

... and just happened to throw it at a black NHLer!

Okay guys, after carefully studying the video evidence....

Simmonds is at the bench arguing with Avery who is on the ice.

Giroux is holding teammate Simmonds back saying "Morget it man!"

Then Simmonds clearly yells at Avery: "MUCKING MAGGOT!!"

Trust me, I'm a great lip-reader, no way does Simmonds get fined/suspended here....

Using a banana as an ethnic slur is so provincial. Step it up racists! Besides, you're going to confuse West Coast Asian-American/Canadian fans.

The Associate Press did some pretty subtle work on the transcription of Obama's speech a couple of days ago (and even they are getting called out).

I think I'm going to side with Avery on this one.

I'd be pissed too if anyone ever called me this guy...
