Taylor Matson Named Captain of Hockey Team
http://goldengophers.blogspot.com/2011/ ... ockey.html
excerpt:
Senior winger Taylor Matson has been named the Minnesota Gophers Hockey Captain for the 2011-2012 season. The Mound, Minnesota native scored 10 goals and added 3 assists in 30 games last season. He suffered two season ending injuries in his first two seasons. He fought back through the injuries and has kept training hard. He is the second Holy Angels Academy alum in a row to don the "C', replacing Jay Barribal.

Re: Prospects Thread 2011-12
I just noticed this Joey Kenward piece on Patrick McNally...
Harvard Bound
http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id ... ss-kenward
excerpt:
“We believe he’s going to get an opportunity to play on the first power play unit,” says Gagner. “The coaching staff understands what type of player Patrick is. They’re going to give him some freedom to do that, as long as he’s responsible and plays hard defensively.”
Seeing as he doesn’t want to forego his college eligibility, McNally will not be participating in the Canucks Prospects Tournament in Penticton, B.C. September 11-15. However that doesn’t mean he’s lacking in motivation to one day being able to play with the Canucks.
“It’s not that hard to look around and see reasons for motivation,” says McNally. “We’re in the Canucks locker room. We saw them play all through the playoffs and get one win away from the Stanley Cup. That really motivates you.”
“Of course it’s going to be important, but it’s just another week to get better,” concludes McNally. “I want to work on my game and get one step closer to one day taking part in a full training camp and maybe one day turning pro.”

Looking forward to following his progression this year in College. With, seemingly, a strong contingent of d-prospects down the ranks right now, there's absolutely no rush to bring this kid along.

Ryan Parent (24)
Taylor Ellington (22)
Chris Tanev (21)
Sebastian Erixon (21)
Yann Sauve (21)
Kevin Connauton (21)
Henrik Tommernes (21)
Adam Polasek (20)
Peter Andersson (20)
Jeremy Price (20)
Patrick McNally (19)
Sawyer Hannay (19)
Frankie Corrado (18)
With veterans Dan Hamhuis (30), Kevin Bieksa (30), Keith Ballard (28), and Alex Edler (25) already in the fold, you only need 2-3 of the prospects to make it, while continuing to sign bottom pairing UFA defencemen like Alberts (30), Rome (27), Sulzer (27), etc.
Obviously Tanev looks like he could make the jump, and Erixon, Sauve, Connauton, and Polasek have a chance, while there are wild cards in Tommernes, Andersson, and McNally.

I don't know why but I've been a big fan of McNally since the draft so I thought I'd look for some new articles since he's in Harvard now.
Here is a good one here, I think it's to long to quote on here.

That one, although a good article, is from June 2010...Benjo wrote:I don't know why but I've been a big fan of McNally since the draft so I thought I'd look for some new articles since he's in Harvard now.

I'm sure we'll see more news as the NCAA season approaches - Harvard's exhibition game is on Oct 21, and first regular season game is on Nov 4 against Yale.

Here are some links to Chicago Wolves news:
(obviously they are not well covered, as none of these news outlets have stories about their first day of training camp yesterday...)
Chicago Sun-Times Wolves page
Chicago Tribune Wolves page
Chicago Examiner Wolves page
Also, there is a fan forum dedicated to the Chicago Wolves "Wolfkeeper.org"
And, of course, the official Chicago Wolves web site.
