Jack Layton Died Today

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Jack Layton Died Today

Post by Vpete »

Handsome Jack is gone. Whether you liked him or not. Believed in his party/ideology or not he was a pretty good soul for many. Sad to lose some one who managed to bring a true socialist-wanting party to official opposition- he gets some credit for that even if the Bloc were dumber than Tea Baggers.

Reminds me of the Province headline when Andropov died.

While I didn't agree with Jack's "vision" for the country he was a good guy to have in the opposition.

Canadian politics just a whole lot more interesting as Layton was the glue that held the NDP/Bloc alliance together.

Quebec allowed the orange to be official opposition. They did it to show the Liberals who matters. That's it that's all IMO. How do you all feel about paying a waitress and college students $150,000/per year knowing full well that they have absolutely no fucking idea what they are doing? It's not funny. The only good thing that may come out of it is if the orange tries to make Quebec happy they will alienate the rest of the country, which should kill off the party once and for all.

Jack may have been a nice guy, but he was certifiable. The NDP's system simply can't work without taxing the shit out of everyone!

I consider the left wing freeloaders to be a cancer upon society, yet cancer didn't miss Jack.

Somewhere there is a former Canucks message board owner/administrator blaming Harper for this.

Even in death Jack Layton was trite - the best thing for his legacy was the fact that he never held any real power in the traditional sense, the highest title he had in Toronto was Deputy Mayor I believe and the highest position he had in federal politics was that he was a leader in the official opposition in title (due to his untimely death) and a leader of an opposition party before that. His policies were in large part pipe-dreams with no grounding in economic realities of the world. He may have been a good guy with good aspirations but at the same time I think the Layton love-in was being laid on a bit thick this past week - but I guess he attracted the youth vote and while they can't be bothered to go out and actually vote they sure do know about how to dramatize absolutely everything to a nauseating degree.

If you didn't think he was a idealist nut job before.
