Not the type of player that we need. Makes us softer with the loss of Torres.
Injury issues with Sturm too.
If he can stay healthy, he'll help the 2nd line but it doesn't address the grit issues that we had in the playoffs.

Reminds me a little bit of signing Demitra a few years ago.

Canucks Replace Ehrhoff!

Gotta have a German right??

Hey: best player to EVER come out of Dingolfin!!

It’s not Brad Richards, but close enough Clammy??

Sturm took a major pay-cut merely because his knees are shot!!!

I’m kidding of course... this signing just plain SUCKS!

Fire Gillis, hire Bobby Clarke.

NOT overreacting....

How can five goals in 35 games earn you 2.25M??

How does this address anything the Canucks need? ....too many of these 2b/3a type mediocre offensive players.
No place whatsoever for a prospect to move up.
Not only no grit, but softer.

Yeah if we get REAL LUCKY he's got one more 25-goal season in him.

Not likely, plus he's a pussy.

So once Raymond is healthy.......where does everyone fit?

Sturm-Raymond-Samuelsson-Higgins

....one of them is gonna be on the 4th line or traded because Hansen is guaranteed one 3rd line spot.
Assuming Malhotra is recovered & w/ Lapierre signed where does Hodgson fit in? Answer = Chicago.
Add ONE grinder to the mix and thats it.

HELLA SOFT

Lots of time before puck drops but in terms of addressing our playoff weakness, we've gone the other direction.

Well I suppose we use up the extra injury cap-space whilst Raymond is out (til November??) then we trade one of Higgins/Raymond/Sturm??

Or perhaps at that point... Krog ole Sturm?

There's gotta be a trade on the horizon. And it better be for someone who can bring it.

Yeah, not a big fan of marco, but the guy has amazing wheels. This is probably an insurance move cuz MayRay might be out for awhile. His earliest return might be like Nov., if we're lucky hopefully he'll be back around X-mas.

Hate this signing. The guy's biggest asset was his speed... and his knees are shot. Nice one, Gillis. Was Sturm a client of yours at one point? This has the same reek as Demitra.

F*ck me, I'm pissed. Gillis had better pull a couple rabbits out of a hat, because in case he hadn't noticed, the rest of the western conference is bulking up. Seems that since the finals, the book is out on the Canucks. Beat them up and they'll go away. Don't worry about the ensuing penalties in the regular season because who is Gillis going to replace Erhoff with? Besides, when the playoffs come around the refs will look the other way if the Canucks get hacked, whacked and brutalized. Wonder why the likes of Edmonton is signing the likes of Eager and Hordichuk? I liked his chirping already. Somebody should submarine him straight into the end-boards before he cheap-shots the Sedins or Kesler.

We better get used to seeing our guys hobbling to the dressing room after getting cheap-shotted while their teammates kill off a retaliatory penalty for uttering a profanity against the offender. I guess the Boston model is being emulated...

Gillis, what is your answer? We've yet to see it.

What would you rather have, Sturm @2.25 or Gagne @3.5?
I'll take the $7mill/2yr Gagne deal thank you very much and put his speed on the 2nd line w/ Kesler. Instead now we have to deal w/ him and the souped up Kings among other improving teams while the Canucks have taken a step backwards.

So disappointing. I know there was ALOT of overpayments going on yesterday....Gillis can point that out all he want but then he goes & overpays for Sturm. A good guy in the room but at best a mediocre player w/ questionable health and coming off a poor season. I wouldn't have paid much more than $1mill for Sturm. Was he really in demand? How does he address any weaknesses we had in the playoffs....how is he going to last the rigors of a long playoff run? Quality personality which is a bonus but c'mon. Rather have overpaid for Upshall or Ward's physical game.

Upshall! I was thinking to myself the other night if I were GM of your Vancouver Canucks I'd offer Scottie $4M per on a 5-year contract. No way would that affect our payroll structure negatively... Turns out that would've been more than enough to land him! Grit in spades with HUGE offensive upside (he was drafted 6th overall for good reason).

Sincerely,
