I'm still using a 2006 macbook, I spent a couple hundred dollars over the years replacing a hard drive and moving up to 2x2GB RAM so it's got a bit more zip than it did to start.

When it comes time to replace this thing, if Apple haven't made hardware upgrades impossible by then (I hear they're now soldering RAM in to prevent replacements on some models) then I'll probably move to a macbook pro or think about whatever desktop they're offering at that point.

If they do.. well I guess I'll be looking at heading back to Windows, I can't be bothered with Linux these days. Too much upkeep and manual configuration.

I got me one of those too, 2006 blew out and replaced the hard drive and upped the RAM at the same time.
other than that though, 6 years of trouble free mileage. the only complaint i got is that the plastic on the keyboard discoloured almost immediately upon purchase. something to do with the formula used or somesuch...Apple will replace the case for free as its a manufacturing error but they want me to leave it with them for 3-4 weeks....just cant go that long disconnected to the net and the world

Shoulda got the black one. ;)

That being said, six years of wear and tear.. I wouldn't mind getting the case replaced on Apple's dime at this point.

Those are some damned fast systems for surfing CC! ;)

I upgraded to a 8G RAM system about a year and half ago - it's great for Photoshop and some of the huge files I work with.

What tasks do you use your machines for?

A year and a half old Asus G53J Laptop for work
I7 Q740 1.73ghz
6gb ram
nividia gtx 460m

It churns through 2d and 3d GIS software with few and far between crashes.

Doc is a Christian Free Enterprise Capitalist, He'll grant you free access to the market but will want compensation for the intellectual rights, however, in the end he will forgive you if you're a little late with the rent, but..dont forget...he is a protestant so its hate the sin not the sinner, and tolerance will only go so far... :)

Quite right ole bean, although in my defense I haven't burnt me a witch (nor a commie) in years.

See, I've been rekindling the ole Judas Cradle idea of late.... in order to evoke conversions instead!

Works like a charm.

Unfortunately I hold the intellectual rights to neither the Judas Cradle nor "amirite". :(

As long as we're not burning Catholics I am happy, (they stopped doing that in Elizabeth I 's reign I understand.

By internet standards of time, "amirite" has surely been in the public domain for years..

Now why am I not surprised there are fascists in your pyjamas?

("Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning").

Greenies and fascists have been in bed together from the get-go amirite? :mex:
