International Politics & Stuff

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Thus I can accept the reasoning behind dropping ONE bomb.

Ummm 2 wrongs don't make a right there.... Buster!

Or 3.

We're talking about the slaughter of civilians here.... women & children!!

So, to summarize your point, you would have liked to see Harry S. Truman indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity, is that what you are saying? :eh:

And I thought you said you liked The Bomb... :?

I'm not the one on trial here!

The defendant will answer the question.

Genocide is a necessity of ending a war.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Senyor you would have made a fine Conquistador I thee-eenk. ;)

Hmmm both Per and yourself are good with the slaughter of women and children on massive scales.

Difference being you'd like to see it all end somehow whilst Per is more of a....

Jeux Sans Frontières guy?

Dear Per

I am presently burning in Hell for roasting civilians.

Looking forward to meeting you soon.

Thanks to Strangelove for channeling me....

Sincerely,

Ah, enough with the strawmen already.

I said I understand the reasoning behind it. That doesn't mean I like it or think it's good.
I'm just saying that given the circumstances I can understand why Truman went ahead with it.

Same with capital punishment. I understand the reasoning behind it, but I think it's a deeply flawed system that should be thrown on the ash heap of history along with slavery, colonialism, protectionism, etc.

Right, so you're good with it. :drink:

After all your famous-folk quotes on the previous page and this statement:

Per wrote:people in the know, like Eisenhower, Leahy and MacArthur were convinced that the Japanese were ready to surrender anyway, which kind of pulls out the mat from under the arguments for dropping it on Hiroshima

.... it's kinda scary that you're good with it!

Psst.. you're coming off as a bit of a bloodthirsty ghoul there ole pal. :look:

*sigh* Now you're just being obtuse on purpose. O, como se dice en castellano, ¡no te hagas el sueco! ;)

OK, let me dumb it up for you. If I put it this way:

I can understand that given the circumstances, people raised in Ontario may root for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Now, this does not mean that I'm good with it, that I agree with it or that I condone it.
It simply means that I can understand it; that my empathic resources are big enough for me to grasp that it is fairly reasonable for some one with that background to end up making something that I'm sure we can both agree would feel completely wrong for us.

So, given the circumstances, people may become Leaf fans, drop bombs, etc.
I can understand it, but it doesn't mean I approve of it. Capice? :eh:

So you're saying people raised in Ontario tend to like to drop bombs, tend to be... Armageddonists??

Bout a nine on the Tension Scale there Spides. ;)

Listen if they are closet Armageddon-lovin Leaf-sympathizers, you'd be the last one they'd tell amirite? :drink:

Just so y'know, unlike those raised in Ontario (according to Per at least), I don't look forward to Armageddon!

I have just come to accept it as an inevitable outcome of human nature.

Some of the posts in this thread have reaffirmed this to me.

For example you used FOUR fellow leftist Hitler smileys in that post buds! FOUR! :look:
