Gotta say, it was a long time coming.

I'm in the same boat as HW... heard that some people were meandering over here while I was testing the rational waters over at Calpuck (epic fail that.....)

I hung my hat over there for a few years, then in one of Chris' "moments" I was done. Sure I deserved my 2 week suspension, but then the permaban for following suit with a dozen other longtime members and logging back in the next day with my "Open Forum handle which I had used for months. Certainly I wasn't the first to do this, but apparently it warranted an IP ban. So I up and disappeared. I lurked a couple times in the HT just to see who was abusing whom, and which noobs were making (or soon going to make) The List.

Then about 5 months ago I signed back up and just chatted hockey, what can I say, I missed ranting between periods in GDT's and bullshitting back and forth with some pretty damned fine hockey minds. I even waded into the political rant for a bit, and that was when I really saw Chris for what he was/is. Selfish and totally lazy, expecting the government to make his problems disappear and pointing the finger at everyone else for his own problems. Then I watched him chase talent. Doc, Topper, ODB... I was like WTF! Of course I wasn't the regular I had been in years past so a week away from the site and coming back to read "The Letter", wasn't such a big deal, just a bit surprising. The thing that really pissed me off was how sudden it was. I hadn't donated since he turfed me as themedic, but I know a pile of people who were still kicking in some spare change here and there had to have been blindsided. They should have been given notice that he was at least considering this, you can't ask for money and then just flip the off switch like that. It's bad form.

Well here's hoping this CC benefits from the influx of solid contributors and that there aren't any rough waters ahead for the Mod team here as a "merger" takes place.

1) Chris Johansen / Canuckscentral:

Wow! I'm still kind of in shock that Canuckscentral is now defunct. I used to post there many moons ago until I was permabanned in 2006. Despite that however, I have absolutely no ill feelings or ill will towards Chris anymore and wish him all the best. To be perfectly honest, I feel a bit bad for the guy. I don't know too much about the situation at hand but my guess is that the political debates had little or nothing to do with Chris (apparently) going beserk. It's looking more and more like it was some kind of pretext....atleast in my opinion. It doesn't look like Chris' style. My guess is that Chris was just looking for an excuse to shut down the site so that he could focus on his marriage (he's a newly wed isn't he?). I'm also guessing that he took the Stanley Cup loss to Boston to heart.....as did I. I think the illogical banning of many long time regulars at CC was just Chris' way of not having to deal with the emotions of saying "good bye" to so many people that he'd known for 8-10 years. Keep in mind, I could be wrong about all this.........but I just think the whole "political debate meltdown" story is a farce....and just isn't Chris' style. Atleast from when I knew him between the years of 1999-2006.

Regardless - I look forward to seeing the interactions between the posters on Canuckscorner and the former posters of Canuckscentral. I hope guys like THINKER, Potatoe, donlever, and UWSaint make their way down here.

2) Calgarypuck.com:

I'll make a few comments about Calgarypuck.com since the "demise" of Canuckscentral is a hot topic on their forum. I'll also say one more thing about Chris Johansen: I suspect that Chris had a soft spot for me waaay back in the day (2001) since he hated Calgarypuck.com......and CJ also knew that I owned a VERY large piece of real estate in the pysche's of MANY Calgarypuck.com posters back then. No one drove them nuts better than I did....and much to my pleasant surprise, I actually became a bit of a folk hero on Canuckscentral. Almost like a "bad guy" in wrestling that starts getting cheered because he's so good at playing the role of the villain.

Calgarypuck – Most posters on Calgarypuck.com tend to think that Vancouverites and Canuck fans, for the most part, are obnoxious, classless, and stupid. I’m going to be perfectly honest…..as it pertains to being obnoxious, they are right. Canuck fans, for the most part, are extremely obnoxious…and are probably more obnoxious than Leaf fans. It’s not coincidence that we were ranked in the Top 5 of ALL sports as the most obnoxious fan base.

However – at the end of the day, as obnoxious and ignorant as many Canuck fans may be, we are PASSIONATE about the Vancouver Canucks. Our passion for the Canucks outweighs any hatred/animosity that we have towards any other team. Chicago Blackhawks – same deal. Their fans may severely dislike the Detroit Redwings and Vancouver Canucks, but their passion/love for their beloved Blackhawks outweighs that. Boston Red Sox, LA Lakers, etc., etc. You name the sport, and it’s pretty much the same for any fanbase…and their representative websites on the internet.

Even most Calgary Flame fans are good fans at heart…..just as most Canuck fans are good fans at heart. Both fanbases’ can be obnoxious, but both fanbases’ have genuinely good fans. Many of my real life friends that are die hard Calgary Flame fans, wished me and the Canucks the very best of luck....and didn't talk shit once (un less it was good natured ribbing,,,,which is expected )

Which leads me to Calgarypuck.com. Unfortunately, Calgarypuck.com is the ONLY sports related website on the internet that has a collection of “fans” that have a hatred towards a certain fanbase…..that outweighs their love for their own team. In other words – most posters on Calgarypuck.com hate the Vancouver Canucks and the city of Vancouver MORE than they love the city of Calgary….and the Calgary Flames.

I am not trying to be disrespectful in anyways towards Calgarypuck by the way. This is just my observation....and I've seen a LOT of sorts fan websites in my time. Although there is a bias there towards long time regulars, I think the moderators there do a decent enough job over there….so kudos to them.

The only thing I do NOT understand however, is how an entire fanbase/website can HATE another team MORE than loving one’s own team. It’s insane isn’t it? Anti-Canuck sentiment runs VERY deep over there…..and I find it to be a bit disturbing. This is not even about sports anymore. This is about basic human behavior.

It’s about a website that hates a certain team SOOOO much, that their discussion forum is completely dominated by anti-Canuck sentiment. It really boggles my mind, and makes me a bit sad that an entire message board can be filled with that much contempt.

***Mod Edit*** - Sorry Farhan, but I'm not leaving myself open to some slander suit. Unless you have undeniable proof, I can't allow that comment to be posted here.

I honestly don’t understand the bitterness that prevails over there. Are Calgarypuckers envious of the fact that their team has never been past the first round ONCE since 1988? (with the exception of their 2004 run). Are Calgarypuckers upset over the fact that outside of Western Canada, the Global world does not consider Calgary to be very significant? (as opposed to cities like Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal that have major global prominence and respect).

I’m not really sure what their exact reasons are, but I’ve never seen so much venom from one message board towards an entire city and their city’s fanbase.

I hope for their sake, and for the sake of having a peace of mind, folks on there find a way to conquer their (unhealthy) hatreds. I don’t think it’s healthy for anyone to have that kind of contempt within them.

Chris has changed over the years, no doot aboot it. He once would ban only those one would expect to be banned. But starting a few years ago he began to ban anyone who seemed.... even in the slightest manner... to be challenging his authority. Or so it seemed. But he was such a solid guy for so many years, one tends to give him the benefit of the doubt.... because after all one realizes one doesn’t know the whole story. Eventually he ended up looking for excuses to ban anyone who disagreed with his OPINION on anything/everything in the supposed-to-be-anything-goes OF.

That’s the way I saw it as of... 2 years ago at least.

LOL - that's a good point about the 'obnoxious on purpose' part. Having said that, I actually do agree with Calgarypuck'ers (and most other fans) that a lot of the rioters downtown WERE in fact Canuck fans. Many of those rioters rioted for the following reasons:

1) Wanted to be a part of history (live up to and exceed what happened in 94')
2) Were joining in because others were doing it and they thought it was 'cool'
3) Were upset that we had lost

Nothing would make me happier in being proven wrong however.....but I'm not sure if I am.

p.s.__________I can't even fully remember how I got Dump so mad at me, LOL. Looking back on it, Dump/Killer Carlson's behavior reminded me of how Ben Eager acted in Game 2 against the Canucks. He just went batshit beserk! I guess he wasn't much of a 'Planet of the Apes' fan.
