I MISS THE '80S

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Yeah, we get it. We got it the first time you started this thread:

If you are looking back in time too often, then you're doing something wrong. Life is for the present and future.

Very true, Cornuck. Life is about the present and the future.

I'd never want to go back to my 20's. I had a good time, but reality of it is, I have way more fun now. With my family, my friends. Al Bundy-ism seems to have fallen on David, and I feel sorry for him. He's single, in his 50's and wishing he could turn back the clock.

I was in my 20s in the 80s and I'm in the same boat as LB. Been there, done that, had fun, denied Facebook requests from the umpteen people I spent the last 20+ years trying to get rid of, and don't want to do it all again.

And Dave, Loverboy was crappy in the 80s (the crappiest or the recycled crappy) and if you miss that crap you have a screw loose. It is one thing to say "I can't believe I liked that crap" but if you say "I miss that crap" you need help.

Yeah, I know, you miss Trooper too. I'm working on a time travel device. We'll send you back there toot sweet.

I too was born in the 80s, didn't know 'em... gotta say ugly cars, syntho-pop, Brett Easton Ellis, Ronald Reagan, and Don Johnson? I dunno... that sounds pretty bad.

Most of it was. It also had some great music, The Clash, The Cramps, and a lot great shows at the Commodore. But the rest of it pretty much sucked.

Ah love the Clash, Cornuck!

I was a kid in the 80s, so it would be hard for me to gage. I mean 10 years old and riding my bike down to Riley Park from the end of Langara Golf Course was about as rebellious as I got, so I wouldn't understand DP's nostalgia. I do like a lot of music from the decade: Ramones, Clash, Morrissey, The Smiths, Van Halen, etc etc but I also have it as my music guilty pleasure decade.

If I were to get nostalgic, it would be the 90's for me...but life is good now. Got an amazing family life and it's good to be bacl home in Vancouver.

Speaking of The Clash, Joe Strummer the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of The Clash, passed away on this day in 2002......weird

Wow - it's already been 8 years? Towards the end he was making some fine music with the Mescaleros - worth checking them out.

And for a Vancouver spin:

Look for the same band doing Takin' Care of Business on youtube too... I tried find their theme to hockey night in canada but I couldn't find it, but maybe it was in my dreams that they played that too. And Chuck Biscuits has got to be the best punk name ever...

This is perhaps getting pretty close to the 70s.

LOVERBOY - 'THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT'

____________

WE JUST HEARD OF A BRAND NEW WAVE
AND WE HOPE IT'S HERE TO STAY
WELL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE
IF IT'S HALF OF WHAT THEY SAY
WE HEARD HE OPENED UP A BRAND NEW DOOR
WELL YOU KNOW THAT'S WHAT IM LOOKIN FOR
WELL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE
IF IT MAKES YOU SHOUT FOR MORE

HOW DO YOU LIKE HIM SO FAR?
HOW DO YOU LIKE HIS SHOW?
HOW DO YOU LIKE THE WAY HE ROCKS
AND THE WAY HE ROLLS?
HOW DO YOU LIKE HIS IMAGE?
HOW DO YOU LIKE HIS STYLE?
HOW DO YOU LIKE THE WAY HE LOOKS
AND THE WAY HE SMILES?

(CHORUS)
THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT
WHOA SO HOT TONIGHT
BUT WHERE WILL HE BE TOMORROW?
THE KID, IS HOT TONIGHT
WHOA SO HOT TONIGHT
BUT WHERE WILL HE BE TOMORROW?

AND WE JUST HEARD OF A BRAND NEW FAD
AND THEY SAY IT'S GONNA DRIVE YOU MAD
WELL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE
IF IT'S THE BEST YOU EVER HAD
AND WE JUST HEARD OF A BRAND NEW WAVE
WE HEARD IT'S HEADIN FOR AN EARLY GRAVE
WELL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE
IF THERE'S ANYTHING WE CAN SAVE

(CHORUS)

THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT
WHOA SO HOT TONIGHT
BUT WHERE WILL HE BE TOMORROW?
THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT
WHOA SO HOT TONIGHT
BUT WHERE WILL HE BE, WHERE WILL HE BE?

THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT
WHOA SO HOT TONIGHT
BUT WHERE WILL HE BE TOMORROW?
THE KID IS HOT TONIGHT, WHOA...

IF THIS ISN'T POETRY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.....;)
