Just Not ready

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

I was too lazy to try and find a better example, but my point still stands - stupid people exist on all sides of the political spectrum.

This interview with Trudeau's brother caught me by surprise.

C'maaan, wake up. that's Justin in disguise man!

Actor, remember?

Wig, fake beard, phony glasses, hippy clothes...

Notice how he tried to cover for "his brother"?

"Oh, when he said all those things on television, it wasn't coming from his heart, but rather the teleprompter."

"It wasn't Justin's evil ideas, it was those of the people around him, he's merely an innocent dupe like Biden."

Yeah right.

Don't be so naive Meg, the real Kyle Kemper is in a dungeon somewhere for having the audacity to question the Great Justin...

Amazing that it's taken more than three years to reach this decision. I haven't followed the case or read the ruling (just read an article in the National Post) but I can't conceive any legitimate reason for the government to block anyone. Unfortunately it's a settlement and therefore doesn't form a legal precedent, so it could happen again.

As for taxpayers paying the fine, that's the way it should be. Nothing to see here. Levant highlighting that taxpayers are footing the bill is just for clicks and not actually newsworthy.

Care to elaborate?

Those fines should come out of their personal accounts, not the governments.

I'm speaking generally here. Allowing members of government to be subject to lawsuits for their actions I would open them up to intimidation and manipulation. It's not in the public interest.

I agree and disagree. Elected government officials currently have absolutely no accountability under our current system, as long as they get a second term they can coast and still collect a comfortable pension. System needs to change.

I agree with Mëds on the accountability statement.

Although we the people must accept some of the blame.

I wouldn't say absolutely no accountability. We have elections.

But I get what you mean. You want accountability to be more immediate or punitive. The ability to recall an MP wouldn't be enough, I gather.

So what's your proposal? How do you allow the courts to hold MPs personally liable in cases such as this, but not when an oil company sues for millions because of a government bill or policy?

Maybe the system is already well-designed, but it's the courts that are at fault for taking 3 years to reach a settlement.
