Franzén won't be ready to play in time for Sochi, and has been replaced by Gustav Nyqvist.

Torn. Franzén is grittier, but Nyqvist is having a breakout season, and might be in the zone, mentally speaking, which can be an important factor in sports.

And now Henrik has announced he won't make it either. :(
Seems he'll be replaced by Backlund.

Does it make sense for Team Sweden to keep Daniel though? Stickboy anyone?

Seems early reports were wrong though.
They've now announced that he'll be replaced by Marcus Johansson.
I actually like that better than Backlund, and he has at times played on the same line as Bäckström in Washington, so maybe there is some possible benefit from that.
Either way, it's very hard to replace Henrik considering that he is one of the best playmakers there is in the NHL.

My hopes for Sweden dropped dramatically when Hanzal ended Henrik's iron man streak.
Our best players can measure themselves against the very best in the world, but we don't have the depth that eg Canada has. Thus injuries to a couple of key players can quickly eliminate our chances to medals.

Franzén and Henrik are already gone. Doesn't look good. :(

Not sure how useful Daniel will be without Henrik, but for the Canucks this could serve as an excellent conditioning stint and help get Daniel back on track.

These are the formations from Sweden's first practice in Sochi:

Loui Eriksson, Nicklas Bäckström, Daniel Sedin
Oliver Ekman Larsson, Erik Karlsson

Alexander Steen, Henrik Zetterberg, Gabriel Landeskog
Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson

Daniel Alfredsson, Patrik Berglund, Gustav Nyquist
Niklas Hjalmarsson, Johnny Oduya

Jimmie Ericsson, Marcus Krüger, Carl Hagelin
Alexander Edler, Henrik Tallinder

Extra forwards: Jakob Silfverberg, Marcus Johansson

The lines aren't numbered, but the two first are clearly the two first, the third here is the third, and the fourth will be the fourth.

Most people originally expected the Sedin line to be Sweden's first line, but under the new circumstances it would seem probable that the Steen-Zetterberg-Landeskog line will be getting the most ice time. Still, the Bäckström solution is elegant and might just work. Loui and Daniel know each other from he world championship, and Bäckström is a world class playmaker, judt like Henrik, even if he normally sets up Ovechkin instead of Daniel.

The team clearly lost an edge when we lost Henrik and Franzén to injuries, but... Nah... Not too shabby.
We can probably still compete for medals. 8-)

I'm kind of curious what kind of tourny Dank will have without his bro. Probably the first time in their careers they haven't been together.

First time w/o Hank for Daniel...but remember Henrik did just fine when Daniel was injured, in fact his goal scoring actually increased.

Daniel got a point! :D

Assisting Erik Karlsson on Sweden's fourth goal against the Czechs.

:look:
I think this could be the solution to the Canucks problems; adding Karlsson on the blue line.
Helps get the power play in order and get the Sedins to start producing again.
Gillis needs to get on the phone and get this done! :drink:
