WJC is showing why we need elite snipers in such a short tourny for Sochi, at least the "checking line" of Toews, Richards, Bergeron or something similar to that can score a lot still.

That extra forward they will select I hope is a young sniper like Seguin he's on fire and can bring that speed/tenacity/elite skill to the table to help win those close games.

I'm warming up to the ideal of Kunitz on our top line with Crosby, has a couple Stanley Cups, is playing on fire..

I'm gonna assume Stamkos will get selected regardless of his injury..

This is BPrice's picks :o , seems pretty solid tho' however I'd like to see Benn on this team as well.

Kunitz-Crosby-Stamkos
Perry-Getzlaf-Giroux
Sharp-Tavares-Seguin
Couture-Toews-St.Louis
Staal-Neal

Possibly. He's a better choice than Giordano or Staal.

I find it hard to believe Richards probably isn't going to make this team. He'd be the perfect 4th line center imo. Sharp better make it, can't believe a guy w/ his wheels & versatility is considered a bubble player for the roster.

And now Couture is out with surgery, so that could bode well for the bubble players like Duchene, Benn.

Why are they taking so long?

It is 8:14 and they have not even named a player yet? Who cares about politicians or anyone else.

Too much politics already.

.....and.... he's in! Nice to see two Orcas on the team this time. Pair him with PK :D

Sharp in Giroux out, hmmm, Claude is on fire these days, not sure if the was the right decision.
I don't like James Neal, I know the family and they are all a bunch of dicks so I don't think that is much of a stretch to leave him off. It's about team unison as much as talent.

On to Sochi, can't wait.

I’m surprised and disappointed Nash made the cut over Giroux. I’m also a bit surprised Seabrook didn’t make the cut, but am stoked we will have two Canucks in Sochi!

Nash, of course. I didn't even think about that, just assumed he's going to be there like the Ryan Smyth of his generation.. but yeah he's going to have to up his game in a big way to contribute at a level that would justify being taken over some of the players he edged out.

I have to believe they took Marleau as the better skater over Thornton the better passer. Little puzzled they took Carter and left off Giroux but it may be a size or positional thing. Same thing with Nash over St. Louis - size size over speed. The Nash decision may be the biggest boner of all the selections, but even so, I guess he takes a seat in the pressbox if he doesn't up his game in the first one or two preliminary matches. As for Kunitz, I dunno but they must have a lot of faith in what Kunitz can do aside from mesh with Crosby.

On the other side of the coin, their bubble choices on defence opted for skating over size - Hamhuis over Seabrook being the example. Vlasic over Boyle... meh, Boyle was getting over the hill anyway. Why not?

^ Marleau also plays wing, whereas Thornton and Couture are exclusively centers. On a team that already has eight other centers, they probably don't need Thornton.

The defensive group is perfectly balanced with four left and right handed shots.

So who plays center? My guesses are Crosby, Getzlaf, Bergeron and Toews,

The obvious criteria was range. Either speed, passing, skating and/or positioning. The range (pure square metres of ice) each of the choices can cover is outstanding. That is why I think Staal is more of a bubble player than Giroux or St Louis.

On defence, all of these guys can play defence away from the boards giving opponent the perimeter to do with as they please while securing the scoring areas. Keith and Suban are the two I could see having problems defensively on the big ice, but that is a very fine line. I think it was the deciding factor with Seabrook.

I have no problem with the Nash selection as I think he'll once again be a third/fourth line players and used to shut down opponents as he did in Vancouver. Glad to see Benn and Duschane make it, but not convinced with Kunitz. In post announcement interviews his play at the Worlds was mentioned as a factor, so I'll go with that.

A smart team that will see the ice. Also hard to pick anyone who will do something stupid and embarrass Hockey Canada.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
