Also, the coach is not utilizing Jost properly. He's stuck with those French slugs Gauthier and Roy. Not so sure about the lines on Team Canada.'I'd get that useless goof Dubios off the top unit and put Jost with the turnover machine - Strome.

Come on! A Canada vs Sweden final, was that too much to ask?
Now that you finished second in your group we' re set up to face eachother in the semifinal already.
It's not the same.

The Finns have a lackluster team this time. The defence is good enough, but they have no offence.

After four games they've only won one and lost four.
Their combined goal differential is 6-8.

Only allowing eight goals in four games is good, that's on par with Canada and only Sweden and the USA allowed fewer, but only scoring six....

As long as the selfish low chance shot hog Strome is a WJC team canada member we will suck.

So, these are the quarter finals then:
Sweden vs Slovakia, Denmark vs Russia, the US vs Switzerland and Canada vs the Czech Republic.

I expect the semifinals to be Sweden vs Canada and Russia vs the USA.

The Danes are really exceding all expectations this year though, so I think the Russians may have to work for it.

Well, Slovakia was not much of a threat. Sure, Sweden dropped the ball a bit when they had established a 5-0 lead, and let Slovakia score three quick goals, but then Sweden scored three more to gain back that five goal lead.
Final score 8-3 and Sweden also won the shots 50-18.

Guess our next game will be tougher.

Stromes 5 on 5 numbers are very telling. Of his 8 points only 1 assist came 5 on 5. The kid sucks

I'm a bit surprised To see the Danes to finish above The Czechs and Finns. But sure, the Finns sorely lacked Laine. They have no scoring. Most teams lack some of their best players, but I think the Finns suffered the most from it.

We Swedes were happily surprised. We did not expect Nylander and Kylington to be available. It'd still be a pretty good team without them, but they add that extra edge. Of course, the one blowing everyone away is the 16-yo Dahlin, but he's not the most reliable player on the team. Amazingly good for his age though.

The semi final could go either way imho.
On paper Sweden looks better, but Canada is playing in front of a home crowd, and there are mental differences;
Sweden has a sort of work ethics where you convince yourself that every game matters. The result is that Sweden now has won 40 straight round robin games at the World Juniors.* You heard right. 40 straight wins. In the round robin. Every round robin game for ten straight tournaments. That includes beating Canada three times.
But in the nine tournaments completed in that time, they've only reached the final five times, and only won the tournament once.

While Sweden thinks that every game matters, Canada knows which games matter.
They often coast through the round robin part and then raise their game to a completely different level once the elimination games start. From what I understand, at the World Juniors, Sweden has never won an elimination game vs Canada on North American ice.

This would be a great time to put an end to that, but I would not be surprised to see history repeat itself.
Either way, I'm sure it will be an exciting game!

The only way Sweden does not win this tournament is if they defeat themselves.
They are the best team this year.
But like you say, one and out games are a different mind set.
Not just for the players, but the coach as well, maybe even more.

Is there no doubt that Dahlen is the 1st overall pick in the 2018 draft? We might even see the top 2 picks of the 2018 draft being two defencemen with how good this Canadian kid Ryan Merkely is playing with the GuelphnStorm. Apparently he is looking better and putting up better numbers than Drew Doughty was at the same age.

The Swedes look tough. Regarding their 2 top 2017 rated draft prospects - Pettersen and Andersson. Andersson so far is looking far better than Pettersen even though Pettersen seemingly gets the higher ranking on most lists out there. Don't like Pettersen much, he's a real string bean - 6'-2" 165 lbs, that's worse than Brad Ference the Junkyard Dawg.
