A fitting end to a series I had almost no interest in.

The Kings were simply better and full value for the 4-1 series win.

This team has lost the plot. They Got excellent goal tending and a very strong performance by their best player (Yes Henrik Sedin is quite clearly our best player) but the rest of our line up was totally out played by the Kings.

The team is stale and needs a big face lift to get back to an elite level.

A new Coach, at least one major roster move, and several changes to the middle part of the roster will be needed.

Changing the team's character mid season was a huge mistake.

...meh, don't make the trades I think they still lose.

Pretty much a disinterested/unable to perform bunch for whatever reason.

I agree.
only a few of them looked like they were working hard and smart
some were just working hard
and others looked scared, nervous, and/or somewhere else.

I think they were surprised by the Blings desire to win as well . To coin a worn and hack kneed expression, "they had the eye of the tiger"...I can't believe I used that line...

I think if the Canucks had won game one they would have evened-up the confidence/energy balance. It would have put LA back on their heels a bit and given Vancouver a jump start to get going. As it was, they gave LA exactly the opposite, a giant shot in arm- the proverbial pumping-of-the-tires - and off they went. If they had battled to 2-2 in whatever order, I think their playoff spark would have been re-kindled, but as it was they were essentially defeated before they even got going. And to that, I think you can quite likely lay *some* blame on the short off-season and yet another very long regular season that was meaningless to them for the last 5 weeks. Sometimes knowing what you are getting into is worse than ignorance.

..yeah I don't know.

I just don't get the feeling this team had that extra gear in it.

LA was clearly the better club.

All in all this may be a blessing in disguise.

Say we fight tooth and nail to lose in 6 or 7 round 2 or in 4 round 3, where are we next year, potentially mentally and physcially screwed once again.

Make a few changes, refuel our jets, get healthy...

....move on.

Good point. Early exit means some time off to heal and recharge.

I think with a few good off season moves, and some recharge to a team who was clearly mentally and physically exhausted, as you say, might be the right tonic.

Last year's long post season charge might have just taken too much out of the guys.

One thing I certainly agree with is if they didn't play that well and made it to say the conference final, then there would be this sense of "the team's good enough, they just need a tweak or two". The way it has unfolded, they can honestly evaluate everything without the danger of false confidence in the current group. So, go for it MG. Take a long honest look at this group and retool as needed.

It's a game of inches, bounces, and breaks.

Momentum, confidence, and destiny also come into play.

At the end of the day this team just plain needs more cowbell.

But then IF they had all the cowbell in the world and won the Stanley Cup

... we wouldn't be able to justify massive & endless summertime trade proposals.

And where's the fun in that amirite? :drink:

Raymond is UFA. Nobody is going to give us anything for a guy that we are going to let walk. Especially when we can't even give them his rights in return.

Raymond is a huge waste of money and roster space...

Exactly. Raymond does not have the finish and vision like a true top-six forward. He does not have the size and grit to be a effective bottom-six forward. For $2.8m (assuming that the Canucks qualify him), I would rather have someone that has a bit less speed but more size instead. Someone like Torres (minus all the suspension history) would be ideal for the 3rd line.

As long as we do not add any toughness.

-Don Hay
-Schneider, Edler, and a pick for Rick Nash
-Trade one of Hansen, Booth, Higgins, or Burrows for a #3 or #4 calibre defenseman.

#### = tradeable and/or space to be filled

Sedin-Sedin-#####
Nash-Kesler-#####
####-Pahlsson-#####
####-Lapierre-Kassian

Bieksa-Hamhuis
Ballard-Tanev
Salo-##### (####)

(one or two more top 4, but not top 2, calibre defensemen that can be worthy enough to play on the 3-4 pairing incase of injury).

Gragnani, Alberts, Rome

Luongo
Lack

(in a few years time when Luongo will have an 'out' in his contract, Lack can possibly be good enough to take over the reigns.....just as Schneider is ready right now).

So you're trading Edler, a DEFENSE who is 2 years younger and had 49 points last year in 82 to games
for Rick Nash, a forward who had 59 points in 82 games.

Then I guess as a salary dump to make up the $4.55million in extra salary you just took on for those 10 extra points (giving up Edler's 3.25mill for Nash's 7.8mill).... you will throw in a 26 year old goalie who had the best save % and GAA in the playoffs this year, and the 2nd best save % and 3rd best GAA in the regular season.

Hmm... instead of doing this deal, you could dump a league minimum contract instead and fit luongo's contract in as a backup AND keep Edler.

Makes sense to me o.O
