What a mess of a game!

On the good side:
Some great play by Higgins and Hodgson in the offensive zone.
Luongo makes a great leg save, albeit after he gives up another easy rebound.
Burrows is playing with maximum heart and effort.

On the bad side:
Alberts is an adventure when he pinches.
Every Philadelphia possession in the Canucks' zone is a fire drill.
Sturm can't get the puck out and covers no-one... I don't think he'll be a good fit on the bottom six.

Yup, Hodgson and Higgins are still looking miles better then Sami and Sturm. Right now a second line of Higgens, Kesler, and Hodgson would be very solid IMO.

Sammy should stay in the line up for the power play but Sturm has basically been a liability.

Is Sammy exempt from the system? Does anyone know what he's doing out there? Geez.

At least we have a new cool new Triple H line. Higgens Hodgson Hansen.

I honestly don't know what I'm watching - it's like a pre-season playoff game in an alternate universe. Sloppy, brilliant, back to sloppy. Not sure if I should be happy with the battling back, or pissed at the black hole-like lapses.

Other than the Sedins, they do seem to be the most prepared to play today.

I'm going to call them the "preparation" line.

Wow, the Canucks are getting all sorts of chances to tie it up.

You mean Bobby Clarke, the guy who built the team that finished dead last in 2007? That Bobby Clarke?

Well, at least we'd have Steve Bernier locked up!

If we were going to pull the goalie the minute the penalty expired, I don't understand why we didn't pull him earlier in order to get a two man advantage?

I'm sure I'll change my tune in March but...this loss doesn't really bother me.

The Canucks didn't deserve the win, and BS efforts like that just aren't going to cut it over the long haul. The players need to remember it, and this gives AV ammo down the road.

Bad defensive coverage, bad goaltending, bad line combos, bad effort early.

Kind of the storey tonight and through the first 3 games.

I really didn't like that game. Watching it was like having sandpaper rubbed over my eye balls.

But I do like the PH3 line.
The only HW the Canucks need

But the dynamic skating and speed through the neutral zone (particularly on the PP) is missing without those two players.
Meh, offense hasn't been the problem.

Also, I would give Luongo more credit for that Jagr save if he hadn't put himself in such a poor position by failing to cover the puck in the first place. A save is a save for sure, but he has way too many of those "hot potatoe" moments that end up in the back of the net.
Hi Mr Quayle.

That was an ugly (though entertaining) game. Poor start, poor PK, poor defensive coverage, and average goaltending cost us in my opinion. The pp had the chances to tie the game but its not like they were terrible. 2 goals and some great chances as well. Im not that worried about the PP.

My concerns early in the season are the PK, defensive zone coverage, and Luongo (what else is new). Special teams always take a bit to get going some I'm sure they'll get it sorted out. The coverage in our own zone however has been surprisingly poor. You don't give up the least goals in the regular season by chance so we know they are capable of much better. Hopefully they get it together.

And as for Lu, well, either his confidence is shot (which is bad) or this is his usual slow October start (which is a pain in the ass). 5 goals against on 27 shots is not good. And even though the winning goal wasn't a softie, its a save he just has to make. The team had clawed their way back despite a poor outing and its all for nothing as a minute later, they score on what was essentially the Flyers only legit scoring chance of the period (only one I remember anyway).

Frustrating outcome, hopefully a better 60 minute effort tomorrow.
