I think it has more to do with keeping Alberts in game shape for when the eventual injury bug strikes. It must say something about Ballard's play this season because a year ago Alberts would likely be replacing him instead of Tanev. When Rome is healthy I could see Rome/Alberts/Tanev all rotating in for games and even covering a few for Salo.dhabums wrote: It's funny how Philly always gets the reputation (to the point where Alberts over Tanev is a good idea) as a tough team but damn that line up would get pushed around in an ASG.

It's definitely about keeping AA in game shape, but the mere mention of the Flyers had us scrambling.Benjo wrote:I think it has more to do with keeping Alberts in game shape for when the eventual injury bug strikes. I am going the other way doc.......4-3 nucks and we battle hard and earn it. But the naysayers for toughness will still resinate...
Silence intelligence so stupid isn’t offended….

Getting our bad luck out of the way at the start of the season... I like it.
And our terrible penalties, evidently.

Canucks already look like a team that could use a good ass-kicking to wake them up.
As exciting as it was to watch "Cardiac Canucks" a couple of seasons ago, a heap of 3rd period deficits were also a sign of a mediocre team.

Now we will see if AV calls his players out for such stupid penalties.

If "calling out" = "putting back in their usual PP point spot" then...yes.BCReefer wrote:Now we will see if AV calls his players out for such stupid penalties.

Dumb penalties, but a nice looking power play for us. At some point Hodgson will start finishing those plays... he's got to, right?

The first two penalties were pretty marginal calls - but, whatever. I didn't even see what Burrows did, although I'm sure the Auger/MacLean influence will follow him for years.
Luongo looks pretty lackadaisical - unaware on the first one, down early on the 2nd, and bad rebound on the 3rd. I'd pull him so that the Canucks have a chance to win at all - Luongo has no confidence, and I'm pretty concerned that his lack of confidence won't change anytime soon.
The one real positive in that period is that Edler was very physical around the net, and besides the one whiff, got a few good shots off.
And Hodgson with the great move in traffic, would've been great to tie it there.

Why was Luongo on his knees on that last goal? He had ample time to get up.

4 goals on 18 shots, Alberts and Ballard and the 2nd line acting like a train wreck, what's next?
If Melanson is telling Luongo to go down and stay down while the play goes on, fire him.

What gets to me is the lunging. Since when has laying on your stomach been a butterfly technique? Lulungego.
2011..... the one that got away.

Meh, offense hasn't been the problem.Mondi wrote:I think these first three games have show that Vancouver really misses Ryan Kesler and Christian Erhoff.
But the dynamic skating and speed through the neutral zone (particularly on the PP) is missing without those two players.
Also, I would give Luongo more credit for that Jagr save if he hadn't put himself in such a poor position by failing to cover the puck in the first place. A save is a save for sure, but he has way too many of those "hot potatoe" moments that end up in the back of the net.
