GDT: Sun, Sep 25 ~ Canucks host Sharks ~ 6pm ~ S/Net + NHLN

Blurb, courtesy canucks.com:
http://canucks.nhl.com/club/preview.htm ... me-preview:

The Canucks get no rest as they host the San Jose Sharks Sunday night after suffering a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks the night before.

Vancouver has yet to dress most of the veterans that played in the Stanley Cup Finals a season ago. Daniel and Henrik Sedin, Roberto Luongo, Kevin Bieksa Dan Hamhuis, and Alex Burrows are amongst just some of the names who have yet to play so far.

In the Canucks four outings so far, Jordan Schroeder, Andrew Ebbett, Ryan Parent, Mark Mancari, Victor Oreskovich, Cody Hodgson, and Mike Duco have all played in three games.

The Sharks come into Vancouver off playing their third consecutive game after back-to-back wins against Anaheim and Phoenix.

Benn Ferriero scored the winner for the Sharks Saturday for his first of the preseason.

Revised lineup
(vancouversun.com):

Sturm, CoHo, Jensen
Roussel, Ebbett, Nolan
Duco, Schroeder, Dimitrakos
Volpatti, Lappy, Pinizzotto

Rome, Baumer
Parent, KB4
Anders Eriksson, Alexander Sulzer.

Lack
Climie

I heard that Lack gets the whole game tonight.

I stole this from another board, not sure how accurate it is. Sweatt has been sent down to the wolf den.

Sturm - Hodgson - Jensen
Duco - Schroeder - Dimitrakos
Roussel - Ebbett - Nolan
Pinizzotto - Lapierre - Volpatti

Ballard - Parent
Baumgartner - Rome
Eriksson - Sulzer

Lack

I italicized the players that I don't think have a chance to crack the opening day roster (Scrhoeder's on the bubble).

You heard right! No Luongo!

Looks like the vets won't get to play until after this weekend. At least I'll be there for opening night to finally see some of them. Vigneault has been known not to play his big boys until closer to the roster trimming is done. It's also known the Canucks are notoriously slow starters in terms of wins and getting into 'game mode'. I think both go hand in hand, but it's hard, as much as I would like, to argue with AV's methods when you have a record of regular season successes.

So, Mancari and Oreskovich sit while Schroeder, Ebbett, Nolan, Pinizzotto, Duco, and Volpatti try to earn an NHL gig.

I can't wait for the "resting the core team" thing is over.

The Sharks are going with Pavelski-Thornton-Marleau... look out Eddie Lack!

Pinizzotto looked injured after he face-planted into the boards while trying to hit Douglas Murray.

Wow - ill-advised pass by Schroeder on the powerplay, blindly into the high slot, nearly gives San Jose a shorthanded breakaway, but Ballard shows good wheels to angle it off.

Sulzer with a seeing eye shot through a screen! 1-0 Canucks.

20 seconds later - Winchester forces a rebound in that was sitting on Lack's left pad... 1-1. Baumgartner and Rome having no affect on Winchester, who was fine to just sit there and keep pitchforking it in.

Ugh, Lack blockers a long shot by Pavelski way out to the side boards, and Pavelski picks it up, and throws it right to Wingles in the slot who easily scores with a long wrister. 2-1 Sharks.

Hahaha - San Jose rolls out Pavelski-Thornton-Marleau-Burns-Boyle for their first powerplay.

I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but Schroeder seems to be having a lot of trouble getting his passes through in last night's and this game. Hitting a lot of skates. It's killing a lot of possible offensive zone possessions.

Hahaha - just after I type this, Schroeder intercepts a D-to-D pass in the San Jose slot, and bursts in towards the net like Rocket Richard, although shot it wide! Wow!

Annnnnnd the intermission crew has no insight on who is playing well enough to make the team or not and can do nothing but whine about how no Canuck veterans are playing.

Sulzer has had a very good game, good skating and mobility, moving the pucks quickly out of the zone, and a couple of awesome blasts from the point.

Is there any chance at all he could he beat out Alberts, Rome, Tanev?

Pinnizotto out, too bad. Nolan's chance is fading & Ballard is not suited to the PP.

I wonder if they'll credit the goal to Hodgson - he dove and whacked at it as he was crashing the net.

2-2 Canucks

Anyway, you've got to like that intensity by Hodgson.

Geez, fluky bounce from a battle along the boards behind Lack's net, lands on Wingels stick right in front with no coverage... he buries it.

3-2 Sharks

I think the sample size is to small to say Sulzer is better than any of those guys but he's definitely surpassed Parent.

No kidding. $925k one way, right? Sheesh - I wonder if there will be any takers when he is put on waivers later this week. I'm guessing no.

On Sulzer - not physical at all, but having a very impressive game as a puck mover... will at least add a lot to the Wolves if he makes it through waivers, and be a good call up in the event of injuries.
