GDT: Canucks host Preds - 7pm - Snet

Post by Cornuck »

Hey! It's another game against a team in the playoff hunt!

Nashville is sitting 9th right now - and only 4 points separate 4th and 11th. I'm so glad that we're not in the mix. Nashiville (like us) is currently playing .500 hockey. For the past 11 games, it's been win-loss-win-loss - time to break that pattern with a win tonight!

This game is being streamed on Yahoo.

Bonus question for anyone who reads these: Is the Game winning goal a completely useless stat?

Current Injuries:
Andrew Alberts (D): Broken wrist
Kevin Bieksa (D): Broken left foot
Alexandre Bolduc (C/LW): Shoulder injury
Alexander Edler (D): Back surgery
Christopher Higgins (LW): Hand injury
Rick Rypien (RW/C): Personal reasons
Lee Sweatt (D): Foot injury

(Isn't it fitting that the Canucks traded for an injured player this year?)

Wondering if the Canucks have the mental and physical toughness to break out and elevate their game.. Without some luck and the stellar performance of Luongo the team would not be even .500 . Sedin line has looked frustrated and not done much recently.. Kesler is not as effective and both his linemates have been benched in the last few games. Samuelsson last game.. Raymond before that.. Both for either poor performance or lazy play.. 3rd line has upped its play and hopefully the 4th will be improved by the new guys brought in by trade - though Lapierre did not look good in his first game.. Preds will be fighting hard tonight .. Time for the Canucks to show they are a contender !!

Canucks 4.. Preds 1.. ( just a hope !! )

Side note to the game. Blake Geoffrion is the first 4th generation hockey player in history , playing his rookie season with the Predators and will be playing tonight, maybe worth watching.. Dad was Dan Geoffrion ( WHA and NHL ).. Grandad ..Boom Boom Georffrion ( 2nd player in history to record 50 goals and one of first to use the slap shot . Played on what maybe the best first line in hockey history... Rocket Richard and Geoffrion centered by Jean Beliveau )... Great Grandfather was Howie Morenz. Other Great Uncle = Billy Coutu - only player to be given a life time suspension by the NHL.. started a bench clearing brawl and ended up hitting 2 ref's :) So if bloodlines run true.. this kid should be something special

Goooooo Canucks !!

hmmmm did I jinx it? Geoffrion .. game winning goal.. Actually Preds played a great trap/checking game.. Canucks had tough luck .. and not enough desire to fight through it..

Shit, i think this is the "luxury" problem right now with all teams fighting for a playoff spot....desire and desperation.

For the last month.. 12 games.. really less than .500 coz no loser points. Tonight best 2 lines were 3rd and 4th.. and our star players .. both Sedins and Kesler and Erhoff were -2.. course we ran into great goaltending and D.. but thats to be expected in playoffs too.. Hope the team gets back on track soon.

Just watched the highlights and i don't know, they had at least 3 chances which should have been goals.
This game was much closer than the score indicates...
