GDT: Canucks host the Avs - 7PM SNet | 3/15

Postby Cornuck » Sun Mar 15, 2009 11:04 am

The once heated rivalry between these two teams has been watered down with the Avs turning into cellar dwellers. Will any of the old spark be on hand tonight at the Garage?

The Canucks need to get back on track after a short but unsuccessful road trip and a win over the lowly Kings. The best stat for the night is that Colorado's Special teams (both ranked 21st) are as bad as ours. Colorado will be missing Sakic and Foote tonight. Maybe tonight will be the confidence building blowout this team hasn't seen in a long time.

Tonight the team is also holding the Canucks for Kids telethon.

Another important game against a team not likely to make the playoffs.
The BJs are only one point back (we have 2 games in hand)
Chicago is 4 points ahead with a game in hand.

Can the Canucks play their game and not sink to the level of the Avs?
Will Luongo play a solid 60 minutes without a bad one against?
Is Sundin going to get on track consistantly?
Can the Canucks stay out of the box and score a PP goal or two?

Still quite a few questions remain as we head into the stretch with 15 games remaining.

Can the Canucks play their game and not sink to the level of the Avs? of course they can sink to or below Av's they are famous for it :)
Will Luongo play a solid 60 minutes without a bad one against? If he does it will be his first top performance since coming back..
Is Sundin going to get on track consistantly? I expect about the same from the Sundin line (kesler doing the scoring }
Can the Canucks stay out of the box and score a PP goal or two?
A doubtful question.. Lets just hope they don't screw up the PK as well as the PP...

Meantime . .. prediction 4 - 2 Canucks Sedin line with 2 goals ( they do well against soft teams ) ..

Go Canuckssssssssss

Both Chicago and Columbus lost today. This is a good chance to get some breathing room between the BJs and us.
We can also move within 2 points of the Hawks with a W tonight!

Congrats to Ohlund for becoming the All time Canucks Dman scorer!

Otherwise, we blew a chance to blow them away. We let them get back, and could have just as easily lost this game. Where is the killer instinct? Has this franchise EVER had it?

But hey - "they keep finding ways to win" and we're two points closer to the Hawks and the Flames.

1 good period of hockey... plus a little luck on that 3rd period penalty ( Tucker gets cut but Av's get penalized ) and Canucks win another game.. A few areas of concern .. 1) Luongo is not focussed - another bad goal 2) second period let down 3) Although Edler got the insurance goal he also took 3 penalties . Burrows continues to shine. Kesler same.. Sedin's disappeared when the going got tough. Nice to see Pyatt and Wellwood scoring , hopefully that will continue .. Bernier had a strong game .. Johnson blocked a few shots.. The Canucks won 9th on home ice .. Ollie broke the record.. All in all a good game for the Canucks against a weak opponent..

Great game... hey we got the two points.

But even better is last i heard the Canucks for Kids Telethon has raised over $744 000, hopefully some of the CanucksCorner crew have helped the incredible cause.

Decent game. We sat back too much in the 2nd and the Avs got a lucky bounce to start the third but we were the better team overall. We're now just 5 points back of the Flames with a game in hand and one more test against them this season. I still think we're unlikely to take the division, but you never know.

Nice to see the telethon doing so well during this current economic downswing.

On the topic of catching the Flames... For my money the team to play in the first round right now is the Blackhawks and not the Blue Jackets. So, as much as another banner would probably look nice in our spacious rafters, maybe fourth is the place to be.

They started out not sinking to the Av's level in the first period, but they slipped in the second and were lucky to get away with the regulation win.

Luongo might be faulted on the first goal but I think he was screened. The 2nd goal however, was the result of Roberto's weak play behind the net on a shoot in.

Sundin was unimpressive again. No points, no shots and a minus 1 on the night.

They spent almost twice the amount of time on the PK as the PP. The good news is Burrows SH goal, 2 PP goals for and only one PP goal against. For once special teams looked pretty good.

Should have blown the Avs out of the rink but at least got the very important 2 pts.

I was much less impressed with Edlers 3 minor penalties. Sundin was also in front screening for Edlers insurance goal.

Definately guilty of sitting on the lead after 1, and Luongo...man that's an unlucky bounce.

Special teams were better. Maybe not the prettiest but I'll take it.

Man Burrows is fun to watch. I just hope he (and Kessler) don't get hurt this year.
