GDT: Canucks vs. Blows....errr I mean Blues

Postby Linden Is God » Wed Jan 23, 2008 6:16 pm

Alright it's been a long time since I've done a GDT, so maybe this will bring some luck.

Life is no longer a Beech in Vancouver anymore as Kris Beech has been claimed by the Caps off of waivers (sorry for the cheesy pun guys). The season series is at 1-1 between the two teams and only 5 points separate them. The Canucks are in a 4 game slump and have not looked all that good lately.

Will Luongo answer the bell and stand on his head after being called out by the coach? Is it even that big of deal?

Who will be the unlikely hero tonight and provide some secondary offense? Seeing as offense is such a concern with this team, anyone not named Sedin or Pyatt scoring is unlikely (ok to an extent we can add Naslund in with these guys).

I hate the Blows. A cocky friend of mine is a fan of theirs and thinks he knows all about hockey even though he admittedly says he barely watches hockey and never shows up to our weekly pick up games. A win heading into the All-Star break would be nice to relieve *some* stress off of Luongo.

You seem to hate EVERY team LIG...

Anyways, I'm not making score predictions because they're unlucky. However I think we can pull this one out.

During the last TV time out, PA announcer John Ashbridge thanked Canucks' fans for voting Roberto Luongo the starting goaltender for the Western conference in the NHL All-Star Game.

Luongo is taking a mini-vacation to be with his pregnant wife in Florida, instead of joining in the shinny showcase in Atlanta.

St. Louis' D.J. King scored his goal just over a minute after play resumed.

Maybe Luongo's time out in the Sunshine State is a good idea after all.

I find I hate the weirdest teams. I have more hate for the Coyotes, Blues and Bruins then I do for the Wild. Odd I know. And of course, like everyone else, the Leafs.

1-1 after the first with Tkachuk looking for a hat trick of penalties. Not bad. I was hoping for better but the "sky isn't falling yet".

Brad Boyes' goal was followed by a few isolated voices in the upper bowl, appealing for Curtis Sanford to replace slumping Roberto Luongo.
The assists were by a couple of ex-Ducks who have been a thorn in Vancouver's side: Andy McDonald and Paul Kariya. Wouldn't those two guys look nice in green, white and blue?

I don't think Pyatt should be listed with the Sedins as players who score... because Pyatt never does.

Two more garbage goals for Luogno... he's falling off fast.

He has the his wife is pregnant excuse though, even if she's not due for months....

Until that high-sticking penalty call, did you notice Nazzy on ice?

This is game 10 of 2008 and this is shootout number four.
The Canucks have failed to score in four-on-four OT four times.

A win when trailing after 2? Hell is freezing over.

Man was Louie good in the 3rd period and OT/SO.

Suddenly things look a whole lot better.

LIVE FROM THE PRESS BOX: GAME REPORT

Postby B. Mackin » Wed Jan 23, 2008 11:02 pm

Canucks 3 Blues 2 (SO)
Bob Mackin

The Buzz:
Daniel Sedin gave the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 shootout win Wednesday night over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

Beware the Bandwagon:
It was Vancouver’s first win after four losses, but the slump continues. Of 10 January games, the Canucks have just one regulation time win. They have failed four times to score in four-on-four, sudden death overtime. In two shootout wins over the Blues this month, the Canucks have netted only one standings point in each game.

Thanks, but no thanks:
D.J. King beat Roberto Luongo a minute after announcer John Ashbridge thanked fans for voting “Bobby Luâ€￾ the Western all-star starter. What Ashbridge neglected to mention is numero uno's not playing in Sunday's shinny showcase in Atlanta.

“Saaan-forrrrrddd!â€￾:
Brad Boyes’ second period goal was followed by isolated upper bowl voices seeking a goalie switch.

The O in the P.P.:
Mattias Ohlund had two power play goals for Vancouver.

Next up:
The Canucks return to action from the All-Star break when the Dallas Stars visit on Tuesday.

In my eyes not really a win but at least 2 points and a good start to really get out of the slump after the break.

Imagine what ugly unpromising days would be laying in front of us all if they had lost and would be losing a playoff spot after tonight's gameday...
