2-0, but we'd be nowhere without Luongo. I guess that's why we pay him the big bucks. Salo was the best skater on the ice IMO. Byfuglien was pretty good for the Hawks, so was Sopel.

LIVE FROM THE GAME: CANUCKS 2 HAWKS 0

Post by B. Mackin »

Vancouver Canucks 2 Chicago Blackhawks 0
Bob Mackin

The Buzz:
Ex-Canuck Brent Sopel’s delay of game (puck over the glass) penalty led to Brendan Morrison’s game winning goal early in the first period. Daniel Sedin added an empty-netter in the final minute of the 2-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Ouch:
Taylor Pyatt received a puck to the face from Sami Salo’s stick early in the third, but returned later in the period. It was Salo’s first home game since Nov. 1 when he needed surgery to repair his nose from a similar injury. He wore a cage mask last night and set-up Morrison’s goal. Pyatt and Salo are the latest poster kids for the "wear facial protection for safety" movement.

Punch Time:
Byron Ritchie went all-Burnaby on Adam Burish after a mixup in the Canucks’ crease with four minutes left in the second. Four players converged on Burish after he slapped at Luongo’s chest, hoping to dislodge the puck. Burish got a slashing minor and fighting major, Ritchie a fighting major and roughing minors went to Burrows and Cowan.

Clean Sheet:
Roberto Luongo saved 27 shots and had his second shutout of the season against the weary Blackhawks, who were playing their third game in fourth nights.

Sign of the Times:
The Canucks Drummers returned with their weapons of mass percussion to the Library, er, Garage, much to the chagrin of the eardrums of the disabled and differently abled in an upper bowl wheelchair section.

X-file:
The WWW patches on Blackhawks' jerseys were not in celebration of a decade on the Internet, but in memory of late owner William Wadsworth Wirtz.

Next up:
Todd Bertuzzi returns to the scene of his 2004 crime with the reigning Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks tomorrow at 7 p.m. (Team 1040/TSN HD).

VIGNEAULT VITTLES: POST-GAME NEWS CONFERENCE

Post by B. Mackin »

"I thought we came out real strong, definitely had a very good first period. Obviously overall we played a solid game. If we could've gotten that second one (earlier) it probably would've taken the wind out of their sail...They compete ahard and are a much improved team."

"(Referee Dennis LaRue) said the goaltender had control of the puck and we pushed it in. When you see the replay it's not hte case. we could've had that second goal earlier, but found a way to get it done."

"Roberto (Luongo) had a couple of saves to make in the third, he hadn't been real busy until then."

"I really think that our guys competed real hard. it's a tough team to pay against."

"Sami (Salo is) a top notch defensement, sees the ice well, very strong one on one. With him back in the lineup... our D will find their groove."

A particularly delicious 2 points against a potential playoff rival, though that's getting w-a-a-a-ay ahead of things - still about 60 games to play. The depth on defence will serve the team well, I think.

Great game to watch.
A few scary hits into the boards but, all in all, great physical hockey, good speed, lots of chances, solid goaltending...

Fabulous, perfectly executed, slap pass by Sami but I would have given his game star to Kesler today. He was visible every minute he was on the ice.

Does Daniel's empty netter mean we 'still' can't win if the Sedins are kept off the scoreboard???

Looking forward to the Ducks.
Bert was noticeable tonight.

Is this possible ? Salo and Ohlund played and they've won ?

Good to see that they responded directly after fridays loss.

The Conference is too tight to lose too much.
