GDT: Canucks host Oilers - 7pm - CBC - Oct 6
After another long summer, the boys are back and the excitement for this season is overwhelming!!
Will we finally see a new 1st unit PP?
Is Brock the real deal?
Will Bo have a fast start?
Is the Twinsition™ winding down and will the kids take over this year?
Will Jake shake "the Flake"?
Will Markstrom prove to be a true #1?
Will anyone notice Eriksson?
And for tonight - do we stop McD?
Game Preview

Think I'll stick to the free streams on HNIC this year and see how the season goes.

I'm naturally a glass half-full optimist when it comes to the Canucks.
I usually maintain that outlook until reality punches me it the face multiple times.
Having said that. I can see them making the play-offs.
I've always liked Markstrom. He looks ready to be a starter.
Our depth in Utica is much better this year.
I think the young vets, Baer, Bo, Granlund, Stetcher look ready to take another step.
The Canucks won't have a dominate top line, but they could have more depth than lots of teams and outscore the other lines.
Defense looks decent, and doesn't have Sbisa on it.
Green seems like a straight-shooting, no BS, strategic, line-matching coach. He gives me confidence.
I can't see this team being as bad as last season. With a little luck staying healthier, they can be right there pushing for a play-off spot. And it all starts tonight against one of the favourites to win the cup.

There is definitely something in Boeser's game that Green is cautious about. Perhaps it's just as simple as he knows Jake and what he can bring and he needs to develop familiarity and trust with Boeser. But looking at the starting line up and looking at the balance Green is trying to create I'm not really sure who should sit in favour of Boeser.
The kid will get his chance.
Projected line up:
Baertschi-Horvat-Eriksson
Sedin-Sedin-Vanek
Gagner-Burmistrov-Virtanen
Granlund-Sutter-Dorsett
Tanev/Edler
Stetcher/Hutton
Del Zotto/Gudbranson
Markstrom

Lol let's let a couple kids make the team but then give them sporadic starts and garbage Ice time. Virtanen won't break nine minutes tonight.

lol or the easy thing would be since Granlund played down the middle alot how bout sit Burmistrov Whom if he were a young player didn't exactly EARN anything all preseason but, since its Vancouver his play slides Veterans get free passes...Uncle dans leg wrote:Any of these 4Hockey Widow wrote: I'm not really sure who should sit in favour of Boeser.

Play Granlund as a 3rd line center sit Burmistrov and Looky looky both kids play Boeser in a top 9 offensive role Jake on the 4th line...
But oh wait silly me We gotta PLAY ALL THE PROGRESS STOPPERS that impede the progress of youth... Buy your season tickets and get excited about the NHL being a young mans game when THE VISITORS SHOW UP...

1 game and Green is no better.
I guess we have to wait unti TL and Benning are fired before we get a coach who knows how to coach a rebuilding team.

Definitely looking forward to watching the game tonight, although it's more the progression of the youth that I am interested in rather than the outcome of the game. Second to that, I am interested to see if Green is actually going to keep the uptempo style of play in effect or whether he will revert to the stifling style of ol' Willie.
While I don't really like sitting Boeser out tonight, I think we need at least half a season (and probably more like 3/4 to 1) to properly evaluate Green's readiness to coach at this level, his player treatment/bias and his ability to develop players here vs. the AHL.
I don't see us moving up much in the standings from last year given the strength of the division and do not expect the team to be fighting for a playoff spot when TDL comes around. That said, we have (hopefully) a new style of play, a new coach and a lot of new faces so anything can happen (sans Lord Stanley - I'm pretty comfortable saying that with certainty).

Ya, he did. Nico didn't get any points but was relavent and was even killing a penalty.
Makes me wonder why not have sat Dorsette just for this game tonight and seen what our youth could do.
