No, Sutter is overrated and makes too much money. He's not good for this team.
We don't need placeholders. We need 15 year age gaps between our vets and prospects.

Secondary scoring ftw!
Horvat Granlund looking dangerous again, Sutter and Huts.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Secondary scoring. Horvat, Granlund, Hutton, Sutter!
Two games to start the season.
Two games where we trailed after two.
Two games where we tied it in the third.
Two games where we one in extra time, one in a S/O and one in OT.
Two games in a row where Sutter wins it.
Huge difference from last year.

Pleasantly surprised with the result after going down 3-0. Nice to see some spread out secondary scoring.

You may be right in your comments/sarcasm, but I think two games into the season is a little premature to make an evaluation one way or the other on any of these subjects.Hank wrote:No, Sutter is overrated and makes too much money. Definitely some chemistry with Granlund and Hansen.

For sure prettier hockey than last night (for most of the game). Seemed liked some chemistry on all of the lines which is a welcome sight. Hopefully this chemistry will get better and prove out over the next 20 games or so rather than just being an early season aberration.micky107 wrote:Definitely some chemistry with Granlund and Hansen.

Edler looks about five years younger. Not minding the Granlund trade at all now. Sbisa is looking decent. No huge mistakes yet. Benning is a genius.

Um, no. The sarcasm is not about the results from 2 games or being premature. Most posters know this team is still not good or deep enough to contend.DonCherry4PM wrote:Pleasantly surprised with the result after going down 3-0. Nice to see some spread out secondary scoring.

But you can clearly tell the system and team play improves as your roster improves. And when the team is healthy.
It's mocking the last 3 years of bitching and moaning around here. Drafting and development takes time and you need to pay vets the going rate to protect your prospects. Placeholders. Or you become the Oilers but without their drafting luck. This team has never had a 1st overall, it's not going to get 6 of them.

Sutter played that rush in OT perfect.
He glanced over to make Lack think pass then just shot it home.
No effing around.

I still think I'll wait until there is actually a sample size worth noting, prior to making an evaluation as to the success or failure of Genius JB's strategy this season (and whether other strategies would be more effective). Re. becoming the Oilers - to argue that if we don't follow JB's current strategy we become the Oil is pretty far out (and not a very effective strawman) - there is a lot of room (pretty much a full spectrum) between the strategy of JB and that of the Oil.Hank wrote:Um, no. That said, I'm happy to sit in the warmth that two wins at the beginning of the season brings.

Re: GTD: Oct 16: Canucks host Hurricanes - 7pm - SN1
There has been a major shift in the forecheck thus far this season. I don't know who gets the credit for revamping it but the forwards have become much better at disrupting breakouts, especially near the opposing blueline. There has been several instances in the first 2 games of sustained pressure directly attributed to actively clogging the passing lanes. The opposing d are either trying hail mary's and giving it right to the Canuck D or firing it directly into our forwards shinpads or sticks.
I thought the Canucks had the run of the play in the first and were wreaking havoc on the Canes breakout, if it wasn't for the bang-bang play on the Rask goal the Canucks were looking to win this one easily.
This team is still in dire need of some up and coming game breakers to take over for the Sedins, but it feels like the team is playing to its strengths much more so than last year. Obviously small sample size though vs 2 teams typically in the bottom half of the standings.

Great to see that this team has the morale and heart to come back from trailing 3-0 and turn the game around!

Yet to see any real forecasted chemistry with Eriksson and the Sedins yet, at least not 5 on 5.
Give it some time I guess.
Buffalo will bring a much more physical challenge.
