Over the summer Lucic was asked to waive to go to Vancouver. He said yes. He was told by his agent a deal with Vancouver was imminent. I know this because he started texting family and friends that he was coming home and was pumped. Sometime between his agent telling him a deal was imminent and Lucic texting, the Kings came in and made a better offer, one Benning wouldn't match.
He has always told his friends in Vancouver that he would love to finish his career in Vancouver. He has his cup, sure he'd love more, but he has always relished the idea of finishing up here. His wife also wants to be here.
Benning makes no secret that he would love Lucic on his team and he and Lucic have a close relationship.
The fly in the ointment, Lucic never thought he'd have an opportunity to play in LA and both he and his wife love it there. He would still sign in Vancouver if LA can't or won't re-sign him but his first choice now may be the Kings. He is enjoying LA and also the anonymity that comes from playing in that market.m
So yes, the rumours are true it's just a matter if LA can retain him. If they don't Benning will step up.
