Nice to see Kassassian score on a slapper like that. I know he has a very good snapper/wrister, but if he can add a slapper to his repetoire, it'll bode well for him. As John Garret said, it's great to see him having fun again out there, with the big "WHOOOO!" when he scored. He's getting a chance to play with our 2 tops guys, in offensive situations and making the most of it thus far. Just give him a chance Willie D, that's all that we ask, u won't regret it. :D

Good question HW, I was wondering the same thing. Sucks to lose MillerTime, hope it's not too long and hope we don't go down the tank cuz of it. I like Lack, but last year he did struggle down the stretch when Lou was traded and he was given the ball. Hopefully he'll be stronger and better as he has the experience of going through it now. It'll be nice to see Markstrom between the pipes, and compare how he is now compared to last year.

I'm starting to think that the Vrbata experiment was a mild success, but they definitely look to have more get up and go when their RW is manned by a guy with attitude and an ability to mix it up physically and give them more space.

The 1st PP unit is a much better looking unit with Kassian as the 4th forward. The Islanders' PK is brutal, but Kassian in front of the net created more room for and the puck gets distributed more efficiently and setting up Vrbata on the weak-side is easier.
Sounds exactly like something someone suggested in October, on both counts. Glad to see Willie finally gave it a chance.

It's a shared shutout so neither goalie gets credit for the shutout. Instead, it's credited as a team shutout so it counts as a shutout in the team's totals. Miller gets credit for the win however.

A few comments;

I cannot understand the love of Zach last night. Did no one watch his floating in the D zone at the top of the circles while the chinese fire drill went on around him. Where was the big physical guy supporting his defence on the boards. The guy is clueless. Lost in his own end and hopeless without the best supporting cast. I'm shocked Lidster didn't bench him for much of the third period. Are we witnessing Pump and dump II. Cue the Gallagher whine.

Is Bo the #2 centre now? A healthy Bonino will bump him to #3. His development reminds me of Kesler supplanting Linden as the dependable centre PK specialist. Bo is far less reckless.

Sbisa and Biega, your Vancouver Canuck's shut down pairing. Say it with feeling.

Several odd calls from refs on this eastern swing.

Good Miller and Good Eddie showed up on the same night.

The three of them, Dank, Hank and Zank were horrible all night in their own end. They had great puck possession in the O zone but we're a line doing the fire drill flamingo in the D zone. The twins really do run around a lot in the D. This is one reason Burrows works well with them, he is defensively responsible. In the playoffs that line will get eaten alive in the D.

Pump and dump II, I love it, although I hope they keep Zachary and let it play out over the course of this year and the playoffs.

Thanks Clam for the SO explanation!

The Sedins have been marginal their whole career in their own zone. This is why AV used to put them out for offensive zone faceoffs. How many times do you see Dank in the opposite corner leaving no coverage on the back side? How many times have you seen both of them make a no look backhand to the middle of the ice turnover? How many times have you seen them cheat out of the D zone leaving the D men no choice but to fire the puck up the boards hoping it can be tipped into the offensive zone. They are very susceptible to a high pressure fore check because they bail out.

Holy yashodhara ashram batman....where the hell have you been? Hiding out in Riondel eating vegetables?

One of the reasons the Sedins have rarely spent time on the IR is their ability to avoid punishment associated with "taking the hit to make the play". This includes defensive zone chips at their blue line.

I wouldn't be surprised if its been coached into them to get the hell out of the way...

9 points in 9 games for Kassian . 2nd among forwards in hits . 24 years old making 1.75 million this season and next . Still a work in progress in his own end . I guess he has to be a hybrid of Bob Gainey and Cam Neely for some folks . The witch hunt is hilarious , please continue !

Yup, as much as i'm lovin the offensive upside from these 3 the D play in their own zone leaves the D-men stranded alot. All 3 of them are circling waiting for the breakout. As much benefit Zach is getting from playing with the Sedins I suspect Burrows will immediately be reunited with the Sedins for the Defense he brings to that line.
