A few comments;
Good road game by San Jose keeping the Canucks to the perimeter while collapsing to the crease to swat away any rebounds.
Todd McLellan is a Topper follower. He returned Jumbo to matching up with Henrik and it worked. Note the Hertl goal was nearly the same as a Henrik to Daniel Sedinery a few games ago, but last night was called a lucky bounce.
Is throwing pucks to the crease area and hoping for an ugly goal/lucky bounce the only play going right now? It has opened a big hole in the deep slot that is begging to be taken advantage of. Time to move the play off the boards a little more often.......and stop that useless cycle game on the backhand.
Zach, last years Roxie rumours and this years porn 'stache can only mean that in the middle of the lawn, in front of your north Surrey trailer park home, sits a 1976 Z28 Camero on blocks.
Booth is not in game shape. Started well, was gassed early. What kind of conditioning do they do in Utica?
Many years ago on a board far far away, I noted Henrik's major flaw was his Burtuzzi moments. I recall Donny was the only one who understood. More of you may understand this morning.
I usually tune out the nonsensical homerism of John Garrett, an ever worsening idiot in my opinion, butt he nailed it last night with his comment of the lopsided trade off of the Bieksa fight.
When do we start questioning scrapping the scrappy Tortorella system?
Is the Ginger geek in the Telus commercials more annoying than the Ginger geek who did the Rogers commercials last year. Will he too receive a wedgie from the inbred plastic fantastic Tommy Hilfiger frat house family?

Well that was frustrating to say the least, but not really a whole lot to be upset about other than the lack of finish. You could see that one coming though...we needed that second goal. Too many shots from the outside hitting Niemi in the logo, and not enough from out front. Sharks were collapsing well.
Burrows is really frustrating to watch now. No finish, not using his line mates well and producing at a rate worse than you-know-who. I wonder when the fans and media will jump all over him and his $4.5M contract? I'm starting to wish again that he was moved back in June before his NTC kicked in.
You guys remember the last time Higgins lost a puck battle? Yeah, me neither.
A bit of a rough patch here and you know who shows his face again...what a shock!
Oh, it was nice to to see Luongo bring back the 2009/2010 face plant save attempt on the game winning goal! Brought back so many great memories from those Chicago series...

Perimeter game...but only for another 5 years(that wasn't a necessity)...all the Sharks had to do was let them play with the puck along the boards all night. How many points have they got since they signed that contract Nov. !?Mëds wrote: While I think keeping the Sedins was a good re-signing, I also think it was an unfortunate necessity. Almost all of the odd man rushes we got tonight that involved then were shut down by their patience. They try to wait things out too much and because they don't have great speed the outnumbered defenders just have to play a second and a half of good positional defense to allow the forwards to get back.
I'm sure the Sedin apologists will get their panties in a bunch

I hate Drew Remenda but he was right about Bieksa being a spot picker . Got stuck watching the Sharks feed last night and Remenda brought it up during that pillow fight.

Teaching my son all that right and good in the world, I made him stand and clap during the standing O for Mr. Hockey.
I then gave him a high elbow, the dentist should be able to fix him up.

One of the worst observations I've read from you.Topper wrote:

When a guy winds up and follows through on a one-timer attempt the way Boyle did it is a lucky bounce. The Sedin attempts from games past are rarely one-timers, and they never have that kind of follow through with full leg kick. The angle of their blade is also telling. From the observable replays, Boyle was trying to hammer one at the net.

Last night might have been bad luck, but seriously........Mëds wrote: But seeing as you clearly think it is a character flaw, please tell us why you think this way.
Since the 2008/2009 season, how many times have the Canucks given up crucial dying minute goals and/or have done something that would be extremely indicative of an insecure team?
-Last minute goals
-Giving up a goal immediately after having been scored on
-Other teams' pests and rats getting into players' heads
etc, etc.
Do you think it's just coincidence that San Jose scored tying goals against us last year in the playoffs TWICE? (with under 5 minutes to go in the 3rd periods). How about the year before when Dustin Brown scored in Game 2 against us with a few seconds left in the period? And how about the Canucks blowing a 2-1 lead against the Kings in Game of the 3rd period?
How do you explain the Canucks almost blowing a 3-0 series lead against Chicago in 2011? What about a 2-0 series lead against the Bruins? Speaking of the Bruins, did you know that out of 22 periods played, the Bruins did not score a goal in 11 of those periods? Translation - when the Bruins did score goals, they scored in bunches.
There are so many examples of our core being mentally fragile (despite being insanely talented) that it's not even funny. I can list about 10-12 more relevant examples if I really wanted to.
This isn't just a series' of bad luck. It's a character flaw.

I don't know, how many times have they done it? Why not go out and find out - while you're at it, find out how other teams/goalies have fared in the same stat? The Brown Knight wrote:Last night might have been bad luck, but seriously........Mëds wrote: But seeing as you clearly think it is a character flaw, please tell us why you think this way.

Overall, the effort was there but we don't have the finish these days. The Canucks couldn't close the deal in reg time. Although the Canucks are 4-1 in OT, you aren't gonna win them all.
The way the Pacific division is going, the Canucks finishing touch needs to arrive soon, but it's not panic time yet. Getting Hansen back will help.
Burrows skating, passing & play making are back up to speed, but his finish isn't. He's not preparing for shots like he used to. In the past, when receiving a pass in a shooting position, he had a tendancy to bend one knee almost to the ice & then slap the shot - crush it - not just wrist the puck towards the net. There was one chance in the slot, that he would have buried last year.
Booth was flying in the first period. He wasn't working well with linemates, the drive to the net wasn't available, but he was creating chaos. Then it all slowed down.

Sorry - getting Hanen back does little to help the fundamental problem with this teamsagebrush wrote:Overall, the effort was there but we don't have the finish these days. The Canucks couldn't close the deal in reg time. Although the Canucks are 4-1 in OT, but you aren't gonna win them all.

Booth was not flying out there, I was at the game and he was far from even walking fast. He was several steps behind everyone else. To be expected of course since he was injured and just came back.

While significance may be debatable, all help to the Canuck cause is appreciated.Reefer2 wrote:

From the game highlites (provided by the Canucks), of the 6 first period Canuck offensive highlites: 2 were of Booth (0:21, 0:35 of highlites clip), 3 were of the Burrows line (0:29, 0:42, 0:56), & one of the Sedin line (1:14). From my vantage point, Booth showed speed in early rushes. Although he couldn't take the puck to the net, he could gain position at the right time. So a guy is an apologist for appreciating two of the better players in the league signed for slightly below market value. Cool story . Maybe you can step up to the plate and offer up a couple of alternatives that will be available come July 1 that will make up 2/3 of a top line. 14 million is your price point . As with the others I'm not expecting a response.dangler wrote:Perimeter game...but only for another 5 years(that wasn't a necessity)...all the Sharks had to do was let them play with the puck along the boards all night. How many points have they got since they signed that contract Nov. !?Mëds wrote: While I think keeping the Sedins was a good re-signing, I also think it was an unfortunate necessity.
