Stanton is so steady defensively he's filled the vacancy of Salo back there.
Not sure if he can shoot the puck with power . But agree he is excellent defensively.
He hasn't come close to showing a Salo shot but he has shown he will drop the gloves. Far too early to say if he will bring any offence to his game though. His job is to play bottom pairing minutes, not get scored upon and play a strong defensive game. As he solidifies those parts of his game we will see, over time, if he can bring the offence. He has jumped in a number of times and looks like he has a head for the game. But like Tanev his job isn't so much to produce points at this stage.
Sooner or later both he and Tanev will have to define their respective games.
Stanton is more likely to develop into another Willie Mitchell than a Sami Salo, & there's nothing wrong with that. Steady is good, & we can use more snarl round the net.
I think the point was that Stanton is or has been solid in his own end without being flashy. No he doesn't have Sami's shot and never will but you wouldn't have seen Sami with the gloves off tuning up Desjardin either.
