4. What a completely ridiculous stat. Luongo sits 5th ALL TIME (qualifying criteria of 200 gp) with .919 SAV%. Maintained over 740+ games. He also has an oustide, but possible chance of overtaking Brodeurs ALL TIME shut out record. If Schneider retains .920 and above after another 100 games, then talk about that. Best in NHL history
.... that's like taking Johan Franzen or Claude Lemieux's 1 mega playoff run and comparing them to Gretzky, Crosby, and Mario.
Nice response Orc, I would add that by the time Lou was Cory's age he had played in 341 NHL games.
"Best SAV% in NHL history"
A quick glance tells me Chad Johnson, for one, is presently ahead of Schneids in "career sv %".
Also, let's not forget Schneids was the beneficiary of sheltered starts....
Of any goalie with 75 or more starts (or 98 to be precise) Cory is the all-time leader in SAV%. This is not a bullshit stat and it is looked upon often as a better stat than GAA (which Cory is 13th all-time in).
But, if that doesn't sell you on why Cory is an elite goaltender, watching his play over the past 3 seasons should be enough. He looks more athletic, better positionally and at least equally technically proficient as Luongo who is, by all accounts around here, still one of the best players in the league.
Anyways, that is but one of the many reasons this goaltending "controversy" has sucked, the worst of which, in my humble submission, is the fact that the Canucks drafted, trained and traded a guy who is on the cusp of winning a Vezina and who is trending in the right direction. A guy who seemed never to get rattled, a guy who was an articulate and consummate pro. A guy who battled the start job away from a guy who isn't exactly a pumpkin.
Anyways, the Gillis supporters can defend this, they can defend Ballard, Booth, and Roy...etc. Hopefully Horvat is a beauty, he looks like he might be.
