They were trying to massage his fragile ego so he'd stick around. He accepted it, which you could argue a true leader wouldn't do, since he already had a problem when it comes to folding under pressure.

In terms of Cory's age, he's the perfect for a team that has already rebuilt and loaded with young players about to hit their stride, like the Oilers or Islanders. If the Canucks blow things up and rebuild he's be Luongo's age, and probably past his prime, before they're ready to really compete. ...or the Canucks if they could actually get an asset for Luongo. But you've considered that, haven't you.

How about Schneider + Edler + forward for Lucic + Rask + defenceman.

Then get what you can for Lou from someone in the East, and we have a very different back end going forward. But, will Boston trade Rask if they win the cup? and, why would they?

We'll see how that plays out. He is a bit of a wildcard imo but so is Crawford.

It doesn't take six years to rebuild. And Cory is just beginning his long NHL career.

But yeah, let's trade our young, affordable, athletic stud goaltender right as he's hitting his prime and keep a playoff meltdown king who wept when he found out he had to play another month here and is signed for another 11 years.
