HW, not that I want to out you, but methinks you may have once worked in the Canucks PR department, because this reads like exact copy. Door #1 or door #2 depends entirely on the level of heat MG is feeling from ownership. If he stays with the predictable then Mr. Aqualini isn't breathing right down his neck at the moment. If he he goes in the more unpredictable direction its to save his own skin.
I'd say MG will say a hybrid of the two, not too explosive, not too cliche.

Normally I'd think if something major was going to happen it would be reported already, but on the other hand Gillis doesn't really leak info like other GM's.

Gillis is a no-show - just like his team.

MG on the coach - "just like everything else they'll be an evaluation."

As suspected typical rhetoric by the GM throughout the entire press conference (so far). "Short season... blah, blah, blah...... hard to make moves.... blah, blah, blah..... everybody will be evaluated...... blah, blah blah...." Get more and more annoyed as I continue listening.

[later edit]

Seriously.... how many times can he mention "injuries" making the "shortened season" difficult... Avoid responsibility at all costs....

"Gillis says he will present a plan to ownership re future direction, including coaching, by the end of next week."

"MG playing the short season card. Well played."

What can you get out of this from reading between the lines?

Raymond gone, Schroeder gone (too small)

Gillis hasn't spoken to AV since the game? Really? He "might" talk to him this afternoon and explain how the process will go from here. Then AV will be canned after the meeting with Aquaman to review management's plan and it will be muddy as to who actually pulled the plug.

5% ticket increase for season's ticket holders - blah, blah, blah "cost of analytics," etc. Sleep Doctor must be upping his fees or maybe they think they'll lose the law suit with the psychologist. Criminal.

Anything else of substance? Absolutely zilch.

Did anyone really expect Gillis to step up to the mic and lay it all out 48 hours after being eliminated? Fuck people, this is the real world. You wonna play, turn on your xbox. Bunch-o ten year old's here or what? What kind of well thought out game plan would you expect by 12:00 today? Changes will be made... good! Now let’s wait and see what happens. :drink:

Just heard Bruce Dowbiggin has a book on Mike Gillis and his 5 years in Vancouver coming out in October - "Best Practices"

LOL - this is not about24 hours, this is about 24 months.

But I do agree that nothing would come in 48 hours especially from MG.

The reason for this crap is that the media either does not ask pertinent questions, or, if asked and the question is not answered, they do not follow up and persist till the question is answered. Very poor showing by the media IMHO, and great job of obfuscation by MG.

All the stuff that has been done, from MGs initiatives like the sleeping/nutrition routines to AVs zone deployment etc strategies has only provided a smoke screen for the fact that MGs initial assessment that the coaching and the core of this team was good enough to win the Stanley Cup was wrong. It doesn't occur to MG that the fact that the team went to the SC final one year is an outlier, and loosing 90% of their play off games is a more realistic measure of the coaching and/or the core. Sure they are good enough to get to the playoffs, but getting there and hoping for luck to win the SC makes no sense at least to me.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the "evaluation."

Gillis: some highlights of his presser

"the way the game is played has clearly changed and we're going to have to adapt"
"will supplement the core"
"need to get younger"
"the most challenging year for this team"
"AV is a very good coach"

He has his work cut out for him this off season.
