MG simply could not bring term in and the rentals were costly. When the lockout started I was in the camp that feared it would end with a lower cap and we would have to jettison players. We got a reprieve and knew that next year would be different. We are paying the price for that right now. Without moving Ballard, or Luongo, or Booth, he could not gamble and bring in anyone with term.
I don't get Gillman proclaiming we were all in and going for it. That certainly left me with the impression they would pick up another rental or two. I think he spoke when he felt they were getting Clowe. But if all we got was Roy, and I am thrilled we got him, I think we will be golfing early, not as in missing the playoffs early but as in one round and out.
Looking forward to hearing Luongo has waived to WSH.
Wow, big words from Luo.
"My contract sucks" - in terms of why he wasn't traded.
"I'd scrap it right now" when asked if he would let some of his salary ago to get more playing time on another time.
It really bothers me that the rest of Vancouver can't get behind the guy. He is nothing but class.
He knows he is in a tough spot for himself, AND that his contract puts his team in a tough spot as well.
I sure hope we can do it this year.
I don't know that the good ship Canuck ain't behind Luongo, he gets plenty o louuuus from the crowd and shit.
He's just got that Achilles heel... literally....as in can't get it tight to the post on wrap arounds in the last minute of the period in big games...
I always wondered that maybe his emotional personality gets in the way...could be he gets over that now that he's a little older?
I would have liked to see a depth forward brought in, somebody with some experience and grit - Jason Chimera would have been a good pickup, or Boyd Gordon as a faceoff specialist. Disappointed we didn't see that.
On Luongo - listening to his press conference just killed any and all value he may have had. He admitted his contract 'sucks' and that it's a hit to his pride that nobody wants to give up anything for him. Gillis and Lu have sure made a clusterf*ck of this situation, he should have been moved a while back so the team can move on.
AV had better be firm with his commitment to Schneids moving forward, because if he keeps doing the coin thing or pulls Schneids after a bad game the media is going to have a field day with it during the playoffs.
