I like the trade
but doesn't 5'-9" Roy nullify 5'-9" Schroeder? Doesn't bode well for Ricky.

If JS can develop into a Roy clone then we are in good standing. If the rumours are true that Roy wants north of 5 closer to 6 as a FA then I think he will be just a rental and maybe JS can still develop into what we need. But it won't be this year.
I like the trade too as it fills an immediate need and by the sounds of things this was the player MG had been trying to get for over a month. He just had to wait until Dallas decided to be sellers.

Where are these rumours coming from out of curiosity? I've read this before and wonder if it's based in fact at allHockey Widow wrote:If the rumours are true that Roy wants north of 5 closer to 6 as a FA then I think he will be just a rental

Good question. I've heard from a variety of hockey pundits but we know how accurate they can be. With the cap dropping next season he may be out of luck with those demands, if they are in fact demands.
If he has a good showing with the Canucks and likes it here who knows, maybe we get a little home town discount for him. But I want to see what he brings the rest of the year and playoffs before I make up my mind. Don't know what MG is thinking though
It would be really nice if JS could develop along the same path as Roy and reinvent himself.

Looks like a rental, but a good one under the circumstances.

He's not bigger or younger, though possibly faster.

Roy is obviously a much better player than the rookie Schroeder right now but but lets be honest he's not even close to the player he once was. Still should help our brutal PP and provide much needed depth at forward.

Agree Herb but not so sure about Burrows.. Last game his line ( Higgins , Hansen, Burrows ) got the only 2 goals..
and Burrows was the top faceoff center for the Nucks.. 57% f/o is not too shabby.. Other than the fact that the Sedins need him to make their line work it is a shame to dismantle the line.. Maybe last game was a one off but it was the only effective line on the ice..
Roy should be a massive upgrade over Schroeder, Ebbett and Burrows...

Derek played with my nephew in Rochester, when he heard of the trade he texted my nephew that he was excited to be a canuck

Re: Canucks Acquire Derek Roy
Decent pickup I guess. While I don't think it makes us a top contender and it doesn't exactly get my mojo going like a Sundin signing, it does give us something we really need in a centre-man. He looks like a brendan morrison type, kind of small, but has great wheels and playmaking ability. Hopefully he can develop some chemistry with the likes of MayRay, Higgins and/or Hansen.
So my question is, when Kes comes back, would u put Roy and Kes together? Or would u split them up and maybe have Kes centre a true checking line? I think I'd go with the later, but wouldn't mind Roy+Kes together for a couple games just to see how they do. Kes has good finish and never really played with a playmaker or Roy's abilities. Not sure how good Kes will be coming back from all those injuries though, I fear it'll take him awhile to find his game back.

Here's hoping our 2nd and 3rd line will be more like a 2a and 2b.

Re: Canucks Acquire Derek Roy
As far as I'm concerned, this is a depth move. Roy's game has decline for several years now. He seems to be exactly the type of player that ends up in AV's doghouse.
