Price was a 2nd rounder and Kevin Connauton.

Barker has also been placed on waivers.

Here we go again. 2nd round pick plus a prospect for a rental player. No way we have the $ to sigh Roy after this season.

Zedlee,

Why don't you let Gillis and Gilman manage the cap while you relax. If Luongo and Ballard make their way off the roster over the summer it frees up 10 Mill in cap space with just those two moves.

It does not really matter, the Canucks need a centre now. Besides, Connauton is still having problems in his own zone. He might not make it to the NHL any time soon with the Canucks.

Roy is going to cash in this offseason. I highly doubt it will be here.

He's a highly imperfect player but he can produce at one end of the rink and with our bevy of two way wingers we should be able to ice three highly effective lines when Ryan Kesler gets back - and more importantly, two even while he is out.

I'm not worried about losing Kevin Connauton, the 2nd round pick is a bit steep but for probably the second best center that could conceivably have become available at the deadline I'd say it's a pretty good price for the Canucks.

I think this is a perfectly acceptable price for Derek Roy.

He is exacty what we need right now.

Considering Murray went for 2 - 2nd rounders I think Gillis did quite well.

Price seems acceptable at the moment, but of course we'll see how it works out.

Roy's production has been declining year over year. Is that a case of poorer quality linemates, regression or being utilized in different situations?

Premium payed for a centre. Cannaughton was not developing as hoped, but may still make it one day. Pressure now on Corrado.

Roy is small, real small. Hopefully Schroeder gets a chance to hang with him and learn a bit.

Next week we have Henrik, Kesler, Roy, Lapierre down the middle. Look for Henrik and Kesler to do duty against opponents top lines.

I wonder if ownership had to speak to each other on this?

Coho replaces Roy in Buffalo, now Roy replaces Coho in Vancouver.

The emergence of Frankie Corrado made Connauton expendable.

The 2nd round pick for a halfway decent rental is a foregone conclusion and as long as the Canucks kept Jensen, Gaunce and Corrado, I was good with Connauton being traded.

Connauton is a left side D with defensive issues and a booming shot. He'll probably never be as good as either of Edler or Garrison and Corrado has replaced him on the prospect depth chart. Connauton may end up as a good PP specialist and a high risk/reward D-man but his potential is a 4/5 guy at best with defensive concerns.

Roy was near the top of my list for players MG should target simply because he's a skilled 2nd line C who isn't a liability defensively.

My hope was the Canucks would add an offensive C because of the uncertainty over Kesler's offensive production in the playoffs since he's played just over 10 games in a year. Although there's doubt over 17's offense, there's little doubt over his all around game once he gets a few games in. Kesler can slot back as the main match-up C and soak up big defensive responsibilities while chipping in the odd even-strength offense and standing in front of the net on the PP.

I'd love to see Gillis add someone like Ott, who can also take defensive responsibilities or line up on the wing to give this team even more versatility and options.

I didn't think the Canucks had a cup chance unless they added an offensive C, but now that they have, all bets are off. I'm very interested to see how Roy fits in.

Roy was a 1st line center in Buffalo for $4 mil but really isn't up to it.
He should be a 2nd line center.

We can't afford to sign him if he goes in the $5 - $6 mil range, unless both Ballard & Booth are gone, and Raymond doesn't re-sign.
Anyways, that's too much to be paying for a 3rd line center

Ah yes, another small forward. At least he's offensive.
Woohooo, MG looks like the genius he is!
