Isn't he going to arbitration? Or are you saying he has a deal soon to be announced.
*edit*
Oh so I did a little googling and it seems he has no arbitration rights. Right? So he really has no options if he wants to stay in the NHL.
The only HW the Canucks need

I'd say Tanev is trying for something like $1.5 per on a two year deal or #1.3 per on a 2 year.
Gillis & Co probably trying to get him wrapped up for just over a mil.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if this is a sign-and-trade.
If Garrison plays the right side with Edler, they might be happy with this on the RS:
Bieksa, Garrison, Corrado, Weber.
Of course they'd need 2 LS guys coming in if that's the case (Murray & Alberts??).
I dunno, just silly summertime speculation....

I am guessing Gillis wants 3 years at $1.5/year. cheap, and still gives 1 last contract as a RFA.Strangelove wrote:

Would love to have Cody, but once one of our rookies makes the 3rd/4th line we only have about 1.9 mill in cap space left. It will be interesting to see what Grabo signs for.

Yeah, we'd be very tight to the cap.$lacker wrote:Would love to have Cody, but once one of our rookies makes the 3rd/4th line we only have about 1.9 mill in cap space left. It will be interesting to see what Grabo signs for.

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,153,333; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $146,667
Only 21 players there.
But I think Gilman could find a way to make it work.
Weber is capable of filling in at forward.
We get under the cap for the first coupla games and then someone like Booth goes on LTIR
... and we callup Santorelli/Lain/Jensen?
I dunno... trade Booth and retain half his salary?
Gilman can do this... somehow.
Leaves will probably match anyway, just offer-sheet Franson at #3.3m to screw them over!

Booth is skating again finally and is in great shape.
Re: Canucks News and Notes
With 21 players roster, the Canucks still have about $2.8m left. Assuming Alberts @ $800k-$900k, MG still has slightly under $2m to improve the roster. Should the Canucks try to sign a veteran centre as a backup plan?? Reasoner or Steckel for less than $1m?

I'd be happy with Steckel as the 4th line C.

As expected, Alberts re-signed with the Canucks. Who's next? Steckel??

Leaves a little room to make a depth signing up front.

We will really need Corrado and Tanev to step up, and our forward depth scares me a little, especially up the middle. If I were Gillis I really would have been pushing for that Grabo contract at $3 million to shore up the center position. Maybe he tried

Re: Canucks News and Notes
Corrado would most likely start the season in Utica. I would assume that MG would sign another veteran centre to challenge Schroeder, Lain and Gaunce for a spot. Steckel or Reasoner could come cheap and provide MG some options.$lacker wrote:Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2013-2014 Vancouver Canucks:

As for Grabo, I just don't think the Canucks have enough cap space to sign him.
