Mike Gillis for example basically traded away an entire draft during his tenure.)

Anyway, enough is enough. Make do with the kids in the organization now, Jim, and use your god damned picks to their best effect at the draft. :scowl:
"Shellshocking" understood, but take heart young David!

Benning is well on his way to being the greatest GM in Canuck history as far as "full set of picks" goes.

Total last 2 drafts = 3 firsts, 1 second, 2 thirds, 1 fourth, 3 fifths, 2 sixths, 2 sevenths.

And this year he has a full set... and maybe more yet to come.

Plus that 2nd rounder from Columbus sometime over the next 3 drafts...

Take heart young David!!
Yeah, that's the thing, he might not even be done. NHL TDD is not the end of it (although by some wimps accounts it's D-Day  ).
GMJB will try to make the deals before or at the draft if they are there.

He is 1000x more active than that other guy ;)

Ex-gm Michael 'NTC' Gillis apologists like McKenzie will tell you he left the cupboards fully stocked and had already started the rebuild on the fly
I love every move Jim Benning makes 8-)

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

So the big question is does Nikita Tryamkin take a number like Rob Blake? #4

or Pronger #20

Chara's #33 taken

#44 barto has it

#8 Tanev's, or will he go the ultimate #88, I think if he show's he's boss, team will let him have it.

Could get #2 maybe this offseason if Hamhuis signs in Dallas, which is Viacheslav Fetisov's number.
A long time ago, a baseball player remarked: "If I owned a ballclub, I'd hire a $5,000 coach and a $15,000 scout."

What did Benning say:

Edler likely done for the year but it's a little too early to say conclusively but his feeling his that he is probably done.

Players were not papered to the AHL: Granlund didn't want to go back to AHL and the Canucks were ok with that. He is an NHL player and they saw no benefit. Virtanen and McCann could not be sent to the AHL this season unless they returned to their junior club by a certain date, played with that club until their season was over, then they could be assigned to the AHL. No one else to consider.

On call ups: has four players they want to look at. Gaunce is with the team. Want to get Grenier some time. Want Zalewski to get time but he suffered a concussion last week and is at a minimum two weeks away from being able to play. Pedan is the D man they want to look at this year but don't want to recall him just for him to sit. But he will get some games.

On Tryamkin (just realized I've been spelling it wrong) he will arrive in Vancouver tonight, meet with medical/training staff tomorrow and hopefully practice with team on Friday. Want to see how he adjusts on the smaller ice. If he isn't ready for the NHL they hope he can use this time to assess that and if necessary then be willing to put in development time to get ready. Are excited about having him under contract.

On college FA: they have a list of players in order of preference. As their respective teams get eliminated they will approach agents. Have Brandon Tanev on the list. Think he projects as a fourth line player. Have a couple of D men on their list. Most will probably not want to do AHL time so their agents will know what NHL teams provide the best opportunity to play in the NHL. Thinks the status of the Canucks getting younger, transitioning, will be attractive to a number of players.

On Boeser, his gut tells him he is best suited to return to college for at least one year. He is in a great developmental program and has had a hell of a year. He has an opportunity to be one of the leaders on his team next year. However he will sit down with him and his agent when his season is done and hold that discussion. But his feeling right now is that he is best served by returning to college. The Canucks will not rush him. He is part of the future core and will be given the time to properly develop.

On Demko, wants to get him signed and started on his pro career. But will sit down with him to see where he is at.

On Sutter, probably done for season too but will know more in a couple of weeks.

On the draft: will take BPA but want a D man. Says the top three in the draft are a class above the rest so if they have an opportunity to pick higher it will likely be a forward. After the top three he sees the next set where he feels there will be a good D man available. But emphasized they will pick BPA no matter what. Stated the organization has not drafted a D man in the first round in 10 years so the odds are something has to turn. But again, if BPA is a forward, they will draft a forward.

Was asked if philosophically he believes a team needs a true number 1 on D to be successful. He basically said yes. Almost all cup winners have that true number one D man AND a big strong dominant centre. That's the model he believes gives the best opportunity for success.

Talks again about the devasting impact injuries have had on the club. Still feels this was a playoff team. But now we are here it is a great time to get the kids into the line up so not only can the team assess where they are at but the players too can see where they measure up.

*******

From other statements:

Expects to see more turnover, outside of the obvious UFAs. Have a few deals they will revisit before and during the draft. Don't really have anything yet in the works that could get them another 1st round pick but they have options. Just need to sit down once the season is over and assess a few players/positions to finalize where they want to head.

Will have in excess of 17+m to spend in FA. Have a list of potential FAs that they want to target. Depends upon who they draft and what other roster moves they may make. This last month will go a long way in assessing their needs moving forward.

Have a couple of potential targets. But too early to get into that.

Are looking at FA from anywhere as potentials.

Expect to have both Rodin and Larsen at camp.

Marc Crawford on Tryamkin, WD, Hamhuis, Burrows and what do the Canucks have to play for now.

No summary of this one but the first few minutes are on Tryamkin.

Above average speed for his size.
Good in traffic.
Good passer.
Good positionaly.
Good physicality.
Needs time to adapt to the NHL game and rink.
Thinks it is a great signing by the Canucks and the kid is a player. Should be able to transition into NHL now playing against 3rd and 4th line players but not ready for top four.
