The guy that insisted on drafting Mark Jankowski in the 1st round in 2012 is now in charge of Canucks' scouting?

That's really great.

I know, I know - at least they traded down from 14 to 21 and avoided drafting:

Zemgus Girgensons
Cody Ceci
Tom Wilson
Tomas Hertl
Teuvo Teravainen
Andrei Vasilevski
Scott Laughton

And afterwards Weisbrod boasted that Jankowski was going to be the best player taken in the 2012 draft. Yep, really great.

VP Player Personnel = "in charge of drafting"

Definitely has me a little concerned - however, can the Canucks get a lot worse at amateur drafting? They are already a little worse than mediocre...

Gilman/Crawford/Benning will do a fine and dandy job of scouting/drafting imho.

VP Weisbrod will in all likelihood help out in the war room for potential trades & college scouting plus bounce around ideals to get this team some decent transactions.

Weisbrod's resume includes some major gaffs.

Calculated risks may be required to expedite progress, but without good homework and judgment, that turns into reckless gambling. Here's hoping that Weisbrod learned from his experience.

#Canucks have added John Weisbrod to the Hockey Operations staff as Vice President, Player Personnel.

Don't know anything about him really.

He was part of the team that offer sheeted ROR without knowing the rules and passed on Shinkaruk.

Sean Monahan was a homerun pick though and a lot of teams passed on Shink.
Klimchuk seems to be ok, and Emile Poirier was a risk for sure, but he just needs to work on his skating... https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/buzzi ... 12362.html
Feaster was the brains behind ROR, even ryan's agent didn't know about that waiver rule.

Anyways a bit of a reach to add Weisbrod to that Feaster mess in Calgary as Weisbrod is more a scout guy and offering solutions, Gilman is the contract/cap/money master so need to need worry about those absurd offersheet situations plus JB said iirc he doesn't plan on using those(offersheets).

Tod Button was in charge of the 2013 draft, Flames senior brass were so insensed with Weisbrod's work at the previous draft that he lost his responsibilities in that area.

Yeah. If he had ANY responsibility for crossing T's and dotting I's with the Flames organization then this should be grounds for never being given decision making power with a pro sports franchise ever again.

However given his CV includes time as GM of an NBA team and his last job appeared to be making crazy claims about 17 year old project players, I'm guessing he's more of an "idea man."

Here's hoping that either Benning knows how to work with Weisbrod's limitations and he can be productive here, or they are just good friends and this is another example of nepotism in action in this franchise and he'll have little in the way of real responsibility.

Don't you have to be related to perform nepotism? :drink:

Dontcha think Weisbrod's decent work with Benning in Boston is a far better indicator of why Jim Benning hired him?
Not some small sample size of a Calgary FeasterfuckUp world.

Technically, yes, but it is funny how NHL front offices and coaching staffs are full of everybody's old pals and friends.

True enough, any objections to me going back and editing my posts to say 'cronyism' instead or is there a better word for the thing we all know I meant? :hmmm:

Editing a post that has already been quoted may not be so effective. However, it's good to know we all knew the same thing.
