Re: Canucks News and Notes
Gilman/JB on the contracts are doing a great job...what's awesome is next season a lot of players have something to play for, well besides Lord Stanley which is a given, but we got many youngsters who got many things to prove to themselves and our new coaches and management.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
It's a fresh change, but remember Benning has no ties to any of these players, and they know it. It will be interesting in year 3-4 of the regime. Even the contracts he's signing (Miler, Vrbata, Kassian, Tanev) are pretty much "show me" contracts. Hasn't been tied to anyone yet...SKYO wrote:Gilman/JB on the contracts are doing a great job...what's awesome is next season a lot of players have something to play for, well besides Lord Stanley which is a given, but we got many youngsters who got many things to prove to themselves and our new coaches and management.

Wonder who his first long term contract will be to, maybe BoHo if he becomes Bergeron/Kesler like.Island Nucklehead wrote:It's a fresh change, but remember Benning has no ties to any of these players, and they know it. Weisbrod could help the Canucks in a number of capacities.
After a season of scouting for the Dallas Stars, Weisbrod joined the Bruins as a pro scout in September, 2006 and after two years became the club’s director of collegiate scouting for three years. During his tenure, the Bruins acquired collegiate defenceman Matt Bartkowski and blue-liner Dennis Seidenberg in 2010 from Florida in exchange for Byron Bitz, Craig Weller and a second-round draft pick. They traded for Gregory Campbell in the same year after landing Johnny Boychuk in 2008 and Adam McQuaid in 2007.
What does this all mean? Weisbrod wasn’t afraid to suggest moves and make them.
Boston Bruins
After a season with the Stars, Weisbrod joined the scouting staff of the Boston Bruins on September 14, 2006 as a pro scout based out of Tampa, Florida. After two seasons scouting the professional leagues, Weisbrod became the Bruins' Director of Collegiate Scouting.
Calgary Flames
On June 27, 2011, Weisbrod was named the Assistant General Manager of Player Personnel of the Calgary Flames after winning a Stanley Cup ring with the Bruins. On December 12, 2013, he was relieved of his duties.
General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of the Orlando Magic in 2005, As GM, Weisbrod has gained the reputation of a no-nonsense guy.

Klimchuk seems to be ok, and Emile Poirier was a risk for sure, but he just needs to work on his skating... https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/buzzi ... 12362.html
Feaster was the brains behind ROR, even ryan's agent didn't know about that waiver rule.
Anyways a bit of a reach to add Weisbrod to that Feaster mess in Calgary as Weisbrod is more a scout guy and offering solutions, Gilman is the contract/cap/money master so need to need worry about those absurd offersheet situations plus JB said iirc he doesn't plan on using those(offersheets).

When with the NBA Orlando Magic Weisbrod orchestrated a mega trade with Houston which went poorly for the Magic, & resulted in death threats from fans.
Bold moves indeed.Weisbrod wasn’t afraid to suggest moves and make them.

werdup hard to compare the NBA to NHL though.sagebrush wrote:http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Kuzma ... story.htmlBold moves indeed.Weisbrod wasn’t afraid to suggest moves and make them.

ALL THAT MATTERS is the success he had with Benning & Chiarelli prior, as that is the working relationship that we have now for this team.
So, it stands to reason that John Weisbrod, one of the architects of the Bruins’ championship in 2011, would be of interest to new Canucks general manager Jim Benning, the former Boston assistant general manager. It’s already been suggested by Bob McKenzie that Weisbrod will be on board here as an AGM.
After a season of scouting for the Dallas Stars, Weisbrod joined the Bruins as a pro scout in September, 2006 and after two years in that position became the club’s director of collegiate scouting for three years.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
The guy that insisted on drafting Mark Jankowski in the 1st round in 2012 is now in charge of Canucks' scouting?
That's really great.
I know, I know - at least they traded down from 14 to 21 and avoided drafting:
Zemgus Girgensons
Cody Ceci
Tom Wilson
Tomas Hertl
Teuvo Teravainen
Andrei Vasilevski
Scott Laughton
And afterwards Weisbrod boasted that Jankowski was going to be the best player taken in the 2012 draft. Yep, really great.
