Messier and Mogilny came here as superstars, and aside from one Mogilny season they played like crap for years. They were decent pickups at the time but both ended up looking like spoiled children. Didn't help that Bure asked out and the D was shown to be crap either, and yep all of these were issues Quinn created. Not sure if you were suggesting I didn't say Quinn created these problems.Blob Mckenzie wrote:Gesus mongoloid garden in full bloom. Messier and Mogilny are to blame for Pat Quinn driving the team into the ground. We should have given Ehrhoff a ten year contract. We can't build a big physical team with the Sedins here. We should have traded Schneider for ROR , Kane or Johansen ( who two months ago was describèd as a slow lumbering player by the same poster) . Keep on keepin on Bountiful Jr

Worse case scenario if Hank can't play vs the Oilers, along with other centers Santorelli and Schroeder still being injured.

Injuries. Part of the game. Every team suffers from them. Which is why depth on the farm is the upmost importance. Depth is created through a consistent year in year out dedication to drafting and developing in which prior to last years draft - the Mike Gillis regime in the 6 years here have failed miserably at which is why we are slowly becoming a havenot with each passing year while our peers - Boston, Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim remain competitive and we notSKYO wrote:Worse case scenario if Hank can't play vs the Oilers, along with other centers Santorelli and Schroeder still being injured.

That, and some embarrassingly bad trades that has crippled this team moving forward

You make some decent points in your first paragraph but then follow it up with a truly retarded statement.

As far as player development we were hampered by our time in Chicago. We had no control over player development or who got played and when. Buying Utica is a step in the right direction in helping us improve our player development.
The development of young talent was and is something MG always preaches about as being one of the keys to a successful franchise. To date he hasn't come close to practicing what he preaches. Tanev is the only young player thus far to be allowed to develop under his watch.

back when we were with Chicago Wolves gillis was good at stockpiling the farm, it will take time to make Utica a top tier team.RoyalDude wrote: Injuries. Part of the game. Every team suffers from them. Which is why depth on the farm is the upmost importance.

Re: Canucks News and Notes
And tomorrow's monday hearing with John Tortorella should be interesting, I'd say he will get a Patrick Roy $10K fine.
NEW YORK -- The National Hockey League has fined Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy $10,000 for his actions at the end of NHL Game No. 6 against the Anaheim Ducks in Denver on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
"Roy's actions at the conclusion of the game were irresponsible," said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "One of the responsibilities of an NHL coach is to help defuse volatile situations on the bench."
The fine money goes to the NHL Foundation.

I'm really confused by this opinion that Gillis has made some embarassingly bad trades.Blob Mckenzie wrote:RoyalDude wrote: Injuries. Part of the game. Every team suffers from them. He has made some moves that just haven't worked out, but at the time, and on paper, they looked to be really good for the team.
How was anyone to know that David Booth was going to decline so sharply? I remember the shit being slung by RD before the end of Booth's first season with us.....but the reality was that his PPG numbers were on par with his all but one season of his numbers in Florida. It wasn't until last season and this season that we really saw him nose dive, and until recently he had to be given the benefit of the doubt because of his up and down injury history.
Pahlsson was a good trade on paper, and also fit the bill that Gillis' bench boss (AV) was crying about not having. Nobody saw that disaster coming.
Derek Roy was a smart move. We were always lamenting about how we didn't have that forward to round out the top 6. Well Roy shows up and should have been that guy, Vigneault should have moved Kes to the wing like Torts did. Instead he sticks Roy in a third line role. Results? Go figure.
Most of his UFA signings have been excellent all things considered.
Re: Canucks News and Notes
The player development mantra that he has spouted off about from his GM pulpit since coming here is one of the reasons I do actually question his decision making process at times. Vigneault was a pretty brutal coach in terms of developing young players at the NHL level, and his decision making in regards to them often seemed to hinder their development more than anything. We had a few guys come along under his watch, but most of them were closing in on their mid-twenties already. Obviously Gillis' hands were somewhat tied as you look retarded for firing a coach who is showing a fairly steady improvement in the standings and then wins back-to-back President Trophies and a trip to game 7 of the finals. All the same. Gillis should have axed Vigneault after going out in 5 to the Kings in 2012. However, I'm not sure who we would have ended up with for a coach at that point, and I'm quite impressed with the philosophy that Torts brings to this team.Hockey Widow wrote:As far as player development we were hampered by our time in Chicago. I think he didn't fire AV for 2 reasons.Mëds wrote:The player development mantra that he has spouted off about from his GM pulpit since coming here is one of the reasons I do actually question his decision making process at times. 1) Just had a president trophy that season and Daniel and Kesler were hurt. Add to that, the Kings went on and killed everybody else. Based on that, he probably wanted to give AV one more kick at the can.
2) Nobody was really available to replace AV. Seems like MG is one of the type of people who always have a list of people as backup plan and if there aren't anyone available that could replace AV, why fire him?
Also looking at all the years so far, MG doesn't look like the type to micromanage. He looks likes he is the modern manager where he allows them the freedom to do things however they want as long as there are results. Hence that's why it seemed like he never really interfered much with how AV managed his players ( mismanaged some prospects, Demitra and etc ...).

Right up their with Mëds blaming all the ills of the world on Edler
Blaming AV for the Gillis regimes poor drafting and developing. LMAO. Hmm, why stop there? We should blame Torts as well cause uh yeah...he has, well, the same amount of Gillis poorly treated prospects by the coaches playing here as well. ZERO!
Fuckin hell
