107, according to elite prospects, but some of those have retired.

A few random thoughts....

Canucks need to sign a backup goaltender. It is insane to go into this season asking Lack to play 20-30 games. He's coming off a season on the shelf and has never played in the NHL. He should definitely get some games this season but not as the primary backup.

If we have a couple mill of cap space when we're done with Tanev and Alberts/Fistric, maybe we should kick the tires on Prospal for a 1-year deal. Yeah he's old and European, but he put up 30 points last season and could chip in on the second, third or fourth lines when necessary.

Trade proposal: Burrows, Bieksa, Schoeder and a third for a decent stay-at-home D and a high-end winger.

Every season there are a few completely raw rookies who step into the NHL as a primary backup.

And hey Roberto is still more than capable of handling 65+ starts

(65+ was the norm for Lou in the 7 pre-Schneid years, hey if young backup is stellar, must give more starts).

There won't be many starts available for Eddie Lack

And if he can't handle that light load, he gets gets sent down and Eriksson/Cannata get the call.

No need to bring in a veteran backup at this point...

No to Prospal...

1). He's old.

2). He's European.

Sign Tanev, offer-sheet BC-boy Franson at $3.3m per on a 2-year deal (UFA in 2 years).

Have faith in David Booth.

The Canucks only have $4.35m cap space left with a 20 players roster. Unless a player over a $1m (Tanev?) is traded, I just can't see how they can fit in a $3.3m contract with the remaining cap space.

I have high hopes that Booth will be much better this season... but a much better Booth is still not an elite winger, and that's what we need in our top-six if you want to be able to score come the playoffs.

Or we could just change nothing and cross our fingers that the aging team that's been embarrassed two years in a row can find another gear...

As far as Lack goes, it's not so much his inexperience that worries me, it's his injury layoff. Luongo's not getting more than 60 starts if we want him rested for the playoffs, especially if he plays in Sochi. Those are valuable points for a no-longer-elite team like ours, and I wouldn't be so quick to piss them away.

Cannata, LOL. :D

Players who really have to step it up this season if we want to compete:

Offensively
Booth
Kassian

Defensively
Edler
Luongo

If those guys have great seasons, we'll be looking pretty good. If only a couple of them do, or (perish the thought) NONE of them deliver.... well, we're probably good and fucked.

Well I'd be good with trading Tanev IF we landed Franson

(if Leaves match, BC-boy Franson comes home to Vancouver in 2 years as a UFA).

There are other ways to get under the cap in time.

For example Booth will be healthy when the time comes.

He could be traded if we sweetened the pot with a nice draft pick... or retained some salary.

Mind you, I have a lot of faith in David Booth. :look:

If worse comes to worse you send Booth down, giving you an extra ~ $950K.

That gives you cap-room for $550K Santorelli and some other scrub.

Oh fuck it, I'm not sure how we'd do it exactly but it CAN be done!

I just want Franson on this team and/or fuck up the Leaves real good. ;)

Cant see the leaves letting their best d-man walk for only 3.2...
CF has loads of upside and has just taken a huge step developmentally. No way Jose

Now in a couple years...maybe he comes home

Meh, if things are looking right, pick up a scoring winger at the deadline.

I'm looking forward to how a guy like Torts uses past playoff embarrassments as a motivator.

That myth has been perpetuated in the media.

Look for that myth to be exposed this season.

Along with the myth that the Leaves are now an elite team.

Odds are all four of those guys step it up this season.

Seriously.

$3.3 :hmmm:

Like I say, it doesn't matter, we achieve the desired effect(s).

BTW most Leaf fans consider Franson their 4th best D-man (Phaneuf, Gunnarsson, Gardiner).

Okay, some value him very slightly more than Gunnar.

Personally, considering quality + prospective cap-hits in the now and the near future

... and Canucks needs, sure I'd probably take Franson over any of those guys.

But hey, I like assholes and I want a Cup sooner than later.

I never rely on the media to form my impressions of how the team will fare, Brother Strangelove. In fact I very rarely watch, read or listen to any hockey-related media at all.

Because, well... it's terrible.

And I'm pretty sure it wasn't the media who crushed us in the first round two years in a row.

Unless the guys in the striped shirts during the Sharks series were media...
