Kypreos also said the Rangers were giving Cam Talbot back to back starts because contract talks with Lundqvist were going nowhere. This was on December 3rd, one day before Lundqvist signed his contract extension.

Fortunately, guys with credibility like Nick Kypreos & Aaron Ward don't get to make the Olympic choices.

Reality is, Lu isn't a lock to make it - even if he continues playing well.

The only sure thing is that the Canucks won't get much love from hockey pundits catering to the centre of the universe.

The perfect scenario for me is that Price gets the job, then proceeds to shit the bed at which point Luongo steps in and is the hero (again).

In all likelihood, Team Canada's performance in Sochi is likely to be disappointing. I can't say I'm excited for the 12 hour time difference, international ice or watching Putin bask in the Olympic glow.

You're right, although I heard Kypreos give his goalie selections again just the other day - & Luongo wasn't included.
I caught a clip of Kypreos talking about how two goalies are shoe-ins for Canada and that 3rd backup in the pressbox "might" include Luongo, "maybe". He had a straight face.

Crawford is hurt again. That narrows it down. Maybe Lou gets in by default

Seriously though you don't leave the gold medal winning goalie off the list when he is having another steady year. He will get the invite. Whether he starts or how many games he starts will be a coaching decision, as it should be.

The personal dislike some have for Luongo is laughable. But until he back stops the team to a Cup he will always be slagged.

Meanwhile...
NHL SALARY CAP PROJECTED TO RISE TO $71.1M IN 2014-15

Rich teams at the upper cap limit can get better. Cheap, low cap teams may want (more) players with a higher contract cap than salary.

I am always excited to watch the best hockey players in the world play for their country. Last Olympics I got up at 4 AM took a taxi half across Bangkok and watched it at the Swedes bar ( Open illegally ) .. This year I win on the time difference :).. Hoping for a Canadian win.. but will enjoy watching the games whoever wins..

And MG has his work cut out getting all our FA re-signed before he can go on a spending spree. He has a ton of players to re-up, needing raises, except one.

UFA: Alberts, Santorelli

RFA: Weise, Kassian, JS, Dalpe, Welsh, Tanev, Weber

See what I mean, he will be in cap hell with that line up of players to get re upped.

In total those players eat up between 8-9 million, add that to a cap increase of 6 million and we have a lot of money to re-sign the guys we want to, let the others walk and get some young guns in the line up. If we buy out or trade Booth, perhaps to a team that needs to get to the new, higher cap floor, we free up some more coin.

MG has set us up to go into the off season with a lot of coin to spend, needing to only fill a few holes, big ones, but with the cap to do it. Now who is UFA next season that we can land?

Well safe to say Tanev and Santorelli will get bigger pieces of the pie but still we should have a lot of coin to work with.

Of course, in real life Dolph is Swedish, and Putin is just another house elf:

HW - you need an hour with MG, you are better prepared that him it seems on where to spend the money and how to make this team a contender again.

I think there a few GM who are kicking themselves knowing they could of had RL for the cheap.

How many points will it take this year to make playoffs?
103/4 ? Has it been projected already?

We have 49 games left or 96 possible points, we have 41 out of a possible 66.

Using the same formula or close enough we should/could end up between 105-109 ish that has to do it...No?
